We bought furniture this past Saturday. We were told and saw on the computer screen that our couch would be here on Monday, the love seat on Friday, end table the following week. We had a five minute discussion about how we would deal with this, because delivery wouldn't be able to come to our house until a few weeks later. (Already a pain in the butt) At first I didn't even want to deal with it, but we were promised the couch would be here, so I caved. So we decided to get a truck to pick up furniture. Well, we ended up having to rent a truck, and put down a $50 deposit because no one was availble on such short notice. Fine, whatever.
Come Monday, we set our old couch out with the garbage so it wasn't sitting around for another week. Big mistake. We call the store around 9am to see if they knew an estimated time the couch would be there, and the number was no longer in service. Let the panic attack set in. We keep calling until they finally payed their bill or whatever and the phone is turned on. Our couch is not in, but the end table is!! I talked to three different people who told me three different stories. First the couch would be in the store on Wednesday, then Tuesday, and then Thursday. By the time the manager told me Thursday, I was FURIOUS. There had been no apologies, and everyone I talked to sounded like I was boring them and interrupting their day, and they were saying anything to get me off the phone. I even got a "Well what do you want me to do about it?". Really? That's how you treat people? Well I lost my $50 deposit on the truck, my boyfriend lost hours at work, and the HORRIBLE customer service had me fuming. I suggested maybe free delivery, since it only costs $67 anyway. That's all. No free furniture. I don't care about that. I want MY furniture that I PAID FOR. "Well I can go halves on that delivery with you, but we won't pay for the whole delivery." I wish you could have heard the way he said it too. That's the majority of the reason I was so upset over all of this. I was about to my snapping point, so I called the head office and asked to speak to someone about filing a complaint. I got a voicemail, and no return phone call. At this point, it's really not shocking.
Way to go, American. If this isn't resolved SOON, I'm going to get my money back. I've worked in customer service, I've even had to take training classes on it. This is not how you treat people that spend $2000+ with you. This is not how you treat someone that's spent $50 with you! It's sad, really. I REALLY liked that furniture.
