I recent moved from Charlotte, NC to Shoreline, WA using American Van Lines as my moving company.  To say the least, I am sincerely disappointed at the level of service they have provided so far.  They scheduled the date to pick up my household goods (March 29, 2012) and came three days later (March 31, 2012). I had called them each day and was informed that they just couldnt make it.

Finally, On April 1, 2012, I was able to leave Charlotte, NC on my drive west to Shoreline, WA.  A representative from American Van Lines called me and told me that they would be in Shoreline, WA to unload no later than April 10, 2012, and that I should be there, ready to pay some $4,700 by cash or money order.  I was here in Shoreline, WA to receive my household goods.  However, I received a call from a representative at American Van Lines that day they would not be there to unload my truck until April 14, 2012 (which was also the contract date). They did not arrive on April 14, 2012 either. I asked them why the delay and all they would tell me was that it was taking longer to get out west than they had planned, and that they would not be out before April 22, 2012 or later.

Today, I do not know for sure when they will arrive, and I think that there should be some adjustment made to the fee to compensate me for my inconvenience, because as of April 22, 2012 they are 12 days later than what I was told. Until the household goods arrive I really cannot get settled.

AVL IS A BROKER (bait & switch) SERVICE! MAKE THEM PAY!

AUTHOR: TRUTH BE TOLD! - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, July 15, 2012

AMERICAN VAN LINES advertises as a "moving service,"  but is actually a BROKER SERVICE, which should not to be confused with an actual moving company.

Potential customers are offered unbeatable, "competitive," low rates, and the sales rep. promise every professional, reliable aspect of moving.

Customers pay the (initial) low rate, sign the contract, and then:

COMPANY RESPONSE

POSTED: Wednesday, May 02, 2012

To finalize arrangements made for any relocation we coordinate, all documentation outlining company policies and terms of agreement are supplied for review prior to execution of any relocation to be signed and returned in acceptance of moving services. Please be advised as indicated within the terms of the shipping agreement, all dates for pick up and delivery both expressed or implied are estimates. Unfortunately the agent secured was unable to execute the move within the estimated load dates provided for pick up and delivery. All dates requested are estimates and are picked up and delivered within reasonable dispatch and reasonable time. We make every effort in performing our customers' moves within the requested moving dates as contracted and try to accommodate our customers despite circumstances that occur beyond our control but unfortunately at times our efforts prove futile. We regret we were unable to execute delivery within the estimated dates provided.

Once your move is completed, we urge you to submit a claim to our office for the delays you experienced as well as any other issues you may have so they can be addressed accordingly. American Van Lines sincerely regrets failing to meet your expectations and apologizes for any inconveniences caused. We look forward to addressing your concerns.
