This moving company did not keep their binding contract in any way. In spite of coordinating my move in ample time, it was a nightmare! The day before my move i Was notified they had not located a carrier for my move. I had to rent a U-Haul, secure a storage unit and find last minute help to move everything .... and catch a flight from CA to PA early the next morning. My possessions were in the storage unit for one day, then picked up and taken to an 'undesignated' holding area. My belongins were delivered 19 days late, and one box was missing. When trying to reach AVL by phone I heard "this mailbox is full" messages, was told they could not contact the carrier and could not tell me exactly where my possessions were. Once I completed the claim form, I faxed it and was told they had not received my fax. So, I mailed the form by certified mail and it was returned to me. Upon the return of the form by mail, I called again and was then told they had received my claim form via the fax I had sent. The woman who phoned me (C.J.), stated she was prepared to reimburse ... however had none of the info I had written on my claim form. When I requested to speak to her supervisor, she informed me she was the final authority. Needless to say, she was rude, unprofessional and far from ready to discuss reimbursement with me. I am yet awaiting reimbursement, and I moved on July 21, 2011. And so, much like those who have had the unfortunate experience of dealing with this company, I am writing reviews everywhere I possibly can, and also filed a complaint with the BBB .... though AVL is not accredited with the BBB. The only thing that will stop this scam of a company is if there is a class action suit. Although, we do know that what goes around eventually comes around.

If this is not duress, what is?

AUTHOR: Diana - (United States of America)

American Van Lines stated they sent me a form via e-mail to print out, sign and return. I did not receive this e-mail. When they contacted me by phone to ask about signing the form, I informed CherlyJones that I had not received the e-mail. Also informed her thta I had not printer, and needed the form mailed to my home address. I received the from in the mail today 2/17/12, it was dated 1/20/12, with a 30 day sign, date and return time frame.

The form states that I (without duress), will remove the complaint filed here at Ripoff, or update my complaint stating that a satisfactory resolution was reached. The deal is, if I do not do this I do not get their measly $300 reimbursement. Also, any complaint or grievance that I file or have filed will result in a retraction of my $300 reimbursement. Is this not a major form of duress, or even a form of harassment, or a type of threat ..... ie, if you do not do what we say, we will not fairly give you the money that is due to you. WOW! Does this not speak loudly as to what type of company American Van Lines is?

I no longer have the credit card that I utilized for this move, however in spite of several conversations with the company informing them of this .... they continue to state both verbally and in writing that they will reimburse the $300 to my credit card.

This issue is primary, however there remains the issue of one missing box ... which in today's letter states is an issue that has also been resolved.
What does satisfactory resolution mean? What does without duress mean?
