I am president of Blue Heron Home Owners Association in Kalkaska, Michigan.  For years we have been having a battle with Amerigas since they have purchased our service from Shell LPG. 

I have regustered a complant with the State of Michigans Attorney Generals office on behalf of the association and was told by Mike Cox, Atty. Gen. at the time, to take Amerigas to court.

After regestering this complaint their handeling of our account was recitified for a short time.  We are a one drop point under ground metered system, with each house being seperately billed.  One of our complants was their charging three different rates to various families from the same supply.  Also they raised their monthly fee each month as crude oil increased.  Those that where over charged received no refund.

Amerigas started to send out a meter reader bi monthly and our bills never matched the reading recorded.  Constant complants to the company would not resolve this issue and our usage was always wrong.  At one time we could phone in our meter readings or enter in on line.  Amerigas, was not equiped to do this and some of our residence where told they could no longer phone in their readings.

Amerigas's coustomer service for complaints is non exsisting as when we call we get someone in Ohio or other place who has to relay our concern to the local office.  We are then told that we will have a representitive return our call in 48 to 72 hours which never comes.

As of this last bill which I received 7-25-11 in the mail, they want to charge ever home owner $112 lock in fee, which as an association we have nevered paid, $3 going to $8 meter fee as told to me by the Rep I last talked with, (Julie) , take the corrected reading they now have and back charge us to the incorrect readings they recorded at the new rate of $2.859.  The last rate was $1.999.

The bills come in units used and we are charged by gallons used which is eronious.  They will supply a formula to figure this out but they have changed the formula more then once.

When our sub was origionally develped in 1999, the developer at the time, Randy Mann - Great Lakes Land Co., signed a one year contract with Great Lakes Energy LPG.  We have not been afforder to negociate with Shell or Amerigas on any level.  Questions on when our infastructure will be paid for go unanswered.  At one point Amerigas told me they would remove it at our cost if we went to another compamy.

Unfortunately there is no other company that will do a metered system in this area.  The State does not and will not regulate propane company's.  Something needs to be done about this and the way many ripoff the public.
