On November of 2001 I started attending what was suppose to be a 100% hands on computer training at the Charlotte, NC facility of Ameritrain.

I had to finance $3,550.00 with Sallie Mae a company used by Ameritrain to finance tuition. I had started the classes along with my brother in hopes of advancing and making a career in the rapid growing It computer field.

There was to be 15 classes total with 4 hours in each class on every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. We however did attend a seminar before signing up and we were told that the classes were 100% hands on training and we were NOT to bring our books to the classes, the books were also in with the cost of the class they stated that "hands on" was the best way to learn.

We ended up having to bring our books to class instead of the hands on training that was stated to us. The "most up to date books" that they say we had, ended up being outdated and full of erroroneous information as stated by the instructor.

The hands on part of the class only consisted of about 5% of the entire 15. The instructor took around 15 or more minutes of smoke breaks ending up costing around 1 hour lost of what was suppose to be 4hrs of each class.

I assumed the instructor of the class complained because the outdated books were replaced at almost the end of the classes and we were told we had to buy them if we wanted them.

We are very disappointed about what went on and feel that Ameritrain represented that its educational experience would prepare us for the modern technological marketplace. Unfortunately Ameritrain representations were misleading and we are now out each $3,550.00 plus the interest and can not advance nor take the required test to obtain our certification which the test also cost around an additional $130.00 for each test even if you fail you have to repay each time.

We feel we were mislead into signing a contract we attended each of the 15 classes except 3 and 1 was due to bad weather we were told we did not have to make up those classes but just to read so we did not "copt out".

We did as we were told and what was stated to us. In their class schedule it states the "start date' and "Graduate date" not take another class if they don't follow through with what they promised.

We have contacted Ameritrain about this issue they will not offer anything except go through mediation with the Better Business Bureau at a cost and I have contacted them they only mediate they do not say who is right or wrong but only help each to come to an agreement.

I spoke to a lady at the BBB in Charlotte where we complained and she stated that they couldn't do anything because we signed a contract with Ameritrain.

They also stated that they would only let us attend another class but we do not feel that we should have to take time out again from what we thought would be the only 15 classes we were to take from the beginning and the driving each way from Hickory, NC each of Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm with each way driving around 1 hr 15 minutes this is not fair to us.

This is my story of what happened to me and my brother at this IT technical training school I would like to see if you could help me in some way to find out if there is others out there in the Charlotte area that got treated in this way and are out the money.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

Hey I have tried it all!! ..a big run around

AUTHOR: angela - ()

Thanks The Fraud Chick from Ethics, Arkansas Actually we did file small claims court papers paid the $50.00 each fee had the papers served BUT Ameritrain came the night before and cleaned out their Offices and since they were basicly out of another state, PA we would have to go their and file small claims court papers but they already filed Bankruptcy on Sept. 23RD.

I have written our Governor Mike Easley and he in return sent my letter to the United States Senate in the Hands of Senator John Edwards who in return responded with a letter with intentions of what I thought was to help us.

Its like a big run around Alot of us and others from other states that this happened to are working together. They basically tell us that it is up tp our Attorney Generals Office to do anything and they do not seem to care. Our State is a Joke and to find out Ameritrain didn't even have a license to operate in NC along with using Microsoft Illegley They were never allowed to teach any Microsft classes or use their Logos.

This is a fraud all together and our Government is to Blind to see. NC is nothing but a joke. SLM doesn't care they just want their money they knew all along that Ameritrain did not have a license but they were stil giving out Loans and they Paid Ameritrain in full before our classes were even complete. So we are all stuck in a bind. I wrote this letter before any of this came out. So we didn't have anywhere to turn to and Ameritrain Vice President Steve Gouviea did nothing but lie the whole time both of us complained.

I hope both of them end up behind bars for what they did to all of us. Their are alot of others I feel very sorry for their loans were alot more than ours and they have children to take care of.

My brother also has 4 children to take care of. Its just the point they committed fraud and they should pay for what they did behind bars. Thanks alot of your support and writting back to me we have Asfb site.org that we all are able to respond together. Thanks Again Angela By the way are you in any legal filed. Noone seems to want to help us. Thanks

Breach of contract

AUTHOR: The Fraud Chick - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, October 22, 2002

Angela,

Your story is sad, I haven't heard much about Ameritrain but your story makes them appear to be a diploma mill. Some unscrupulous, greedy entrepreneurs have identified an untapped resource of ready cash--the student loan program.

I find it disturbing that Ameritrain has its own loan company it uses. Have you seen those commercials on TV for the debt service programs that claim to be non-profit? Those debt service scams operate on a similar scheme. The company is non-profit, however, in the same building or a nearby building is a for-profit loan company that is used to consolidate debts.

It would appear that Ameritrain is in the business of benefiting from student loans rather than educating people. What kind of school engages its students in a contract?

I would appreciate it if someone from Ameritrain would take the time to give us some insight into what Ameritrain is all about. Also, is the Sallie May loan considered a student loan? What's the loan rate? What's the length of the loan?

Angela, I suggest you take Ameritrain to small claims for breach of contract. Take the outdated textbooks with you, that's probably not what was promised up front. Since I haven't seen your contract I have no idea how successful you will be. At the very least you should report them to the Attorney General who may already be watching them.

Good Luck,
