Amsouth Bank Ripoff, Overcharging, Lying, Useless, Dishonest Orlando Florida

Granted, I made a roughly thirty cent error in my checking account records. I had a hold on the account for approximately $5 and had another charge coming in for about the same. In the account, I had ten dollars and change. As I said, I made a mistake. However, the night the $5 charge went through, my paycheck also went in. The other $5 is still listed as pending. When I called AmSouth Bank to dispute the charge, since I had a $900 deposit go in, I was told that because the paycheck didn't post before 2pm, it wasn't available to be used. This is, in fact, a bald faced lie. Two facts to support this: 1) Our paychecks are transmitted electronically Wednesday late at night. Many of my co-workers (those with credit unions and banks considerably better than AmSouth) actually have access to their money on Thursday. 2) Deposits made after 2:00 pm are not available, per AmSouth's own policy. I have access to my paycheck today. This alone proves their excuse is incorrect. Just because they don't process it until midnight, does not mean it was not there prior to that.

Under no circumstances was the bank willing to work with me. My paycheck was in that bank. They had the money and because they chose to process debits before credits, they engineered a scenario where I would be forced to pay them an outrageous fee. Additionally, by lying about the reasons they are trying to make it impossible to draw this to a satisfactory conclusion. I made an error, but they manipulated to situation to their financial benefit. I am going to close my account with AmSouth and I encourage everyone who reads this to do the same. I realize banks are a business and exist solely to make money. However, dishonest business practices are not the method to go about doing it.
