My sister wanted me to go to ancestory.com and try to find out roots. I went there and filled out all I could remember about my family and forgot about it.

I am being stalked, so I'm trying to hide and get all my information about me off the Internet. So I Googled my name and OMG!!! The first thing that popped up was what I put on ancestory. com. It has my parents, grandparents, and a lot more...I was under the impression it was only going to be for members who signed up to see and not everybody stalking me.

I feel like the website tricks people into giving them their information and then just throws us out on the big wide web to share new customers into their web.......horrible thing I did and I can't get then to take it off. They said they ownd the info!!! What? They own my personal family information???? Don't sign up witthem if you don't want your identity stoln....seriously!!!!?

Ancestory com also owned Ancestory DNA.com, Ancestoryhealthcom, AncestoryProGenealogist.com, Familt ytremakers.com, Fold3.com, Newspapers.com, Findagrave.com, Archives.com, Rootsweb.com, My family.com.... My problem with them is they wanted me to sign up and offered me a free month...so I could look...while signing up, they asked me a ton of questions... I answers them to the best of my knowledge... Then I couldn't find one thing on my family. Fastforward a few years, and I Googled my name. All my personal information was on the Internet. That freaked me out! I contacted them everyday for a month to please remove my info because someone has stolen my identity at least twice. I kept getting emails from their webmaster website called Rootsweb.com. They kelpt telling me to do this and do that and they never did anything to take my personal information off the web. It's on all major search engines too...not just Google.   Rootsweb.com asked me to send them the web addresses, etc where my information was located...when I did, it was disconnected or something ..... But my information was still on the web. I threatened to get a lawyer after a month....but I never did....but I do need one..How can they get away with using their customers personal family information to make money while throwing us out there to get our identity stolen? When I signed up with them around 2006 they didn't have anything for me to see....when I cancelled my debit card to stop them from getting any money for nothing, they threw my information out on the Web....People, please don't put any of your personal information on these sites until you have passed away. Then get a family member to do it if you want too. I think it should only be for people who have passed away....They are a company in Provo Utah, owned by Mormons. As of June 2014, the companies provided access to appropriately 16 billion historical re ords Wow! They have ripped off that many people! since I gave them my personal family history a few years ago.   ....I don't think it's fair for them to steal your pictures and personal information and not give it back..... But that's how they made their money. Tricking people into putting all their info into a form to get a month free and then not letting the people delete their account information. They have nothing to sell.....they stole the information and throw it out there. If they had at least kept my personal information on their website instead of letting non members see it....I wouldn't have such a problem with it...But when I type my name into a search engine, BAB!!! My personal information is at the top first thing...telling my birthday, place of birth, mother and father names, and my sisters and brothers, and my grandparents from both sides of my family. I feel violated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tonya Orlando FL
