ancestry.com Had to cancel my debit card. Internet
I chose the 14 day free trial membership. On the 13th day of my free trial I went to cancel my membership only to find out that I have to cancel two days ahead of time or else they can legally bill me because it's written in the terms and conditions that I agreed too. I didn't see that in the terms and conditions because who reads those entire things? Then I found out that they would be billing me yearly and not monthly. I called my bank and immediately canceled my debit card and sent for a new one. That's pretty much all my bank can do.
Also, ancestry.com cut my trial membership to 13 days. I was surprised to find that my 13th day was actually the last day of my membership before I get billed. Overall, I was pleased with some of the information I was able to find but there search results are lackluster. I was desperately trying to find records on one family member, but even when I put in the exact name, birthdate, and state he was born in, it kept giving me results for all the other states, similar names, and similar birth dates. I checked the "exact terms only" box in their search section and still got all these other states and even other countries; over 20,000 results for one person. So I tried calling customer service to see if they could find the exact person and he just told me to do what I already did.
The only records you can find are census, birth and death records, school records, and citation records which have no photos, just a lot of different cards with the same name and date. You really have to do the work yourself and very carefully analyze the cards to make sure it's the right person. You will get many records with the same name of the person, same name of the spouse, same names of the kids, but different birth days or even different birth cities. So alot of the cards have misinformation. If there are photos, they were put there by someone else who was searching for the same person. I rate the service a 3 out of five, but the sneaky billing tactic is just wrong.
