Anderson Ford ripoff we break it you pay for it Lincoln Nebraska
*Consumer Comment: $440 to change a battery and cable?
*Consumer Comment: Why didn't he do it himself?
my son took his 2000 Ford Focus to Anderson Ford, for a battery replacement and positive cable replacement. The service advisor called and told my son that they might break the alternator if they tryed to remove the cable from the alternator. son told them if you can't do it, then just replace the end of the cable that connects to the battery. An hour later Anderson Ford calls and says we broke the alternator, that will cost you $440.00 parts and labor. This and the battery, and the cable. cost total $884.17. after talking to others we have decided to stop payment and let them justify the costs to a judge.

$440 to change a battery and cable?

That is insane... $440.00 for a battery and cable?? There's something very fishy about this. Why would you even authorize $440.00 for a battery and cable replacement in the first place? You had to have authorized this amount when you took the car into the dealer.
Forget the alternator, this doesn't even play into the problem, even if they did break it. The issue here isn't the alternator, it's your son authorizing the service department to replace a battery and cable for $440.00, which he could've done himself for cost. Plus, I have never seen a positive cable hooked directly to an alternator before, but, I've never owned a Focus...
I'm sorry, but this whole story sounds less than truthful in my opinion.

The battery cable only has two nuts, one at each end. You went to a Ford Dealer and added a whole bunch more.
Auto batteries are easy to change. Walmart will install your new $60 battery for free. $440 for a new battery & cable is VERY high. $440 for an alternator is high.
Maybe you should reconsider who works on your cars? Repair manuals are not expensive and Sears has decent sales on pretty good tools. One $900 payment will fill your garage with tools.
I do most of my own auto work, but I drive a Toyota so there aren't many repairs to talk about....
