A neighbor brought over this Miguel Chappell and recommended him to work with horses because he was living at his place and needed money. I gave him $350.00 in Nov. 2008 to put 30 days on my horse. He put 6 days on him and then went to a sale. 2 months went by but the weather was poor so I told him when it stopped raining to come and put in the rest of the 30 days. After 3 months I started asking when he was going to finish and he acted as if I was bothering him.

I finally said something to the people he is staying with and he came over 2 more times in a 2 week period and that was it. When I confronted him, he said he would give my money back...... that was 4 months ago. He also traded for one of my warmbloods, his value, $5000.00. He was supposed to start 3 horses for the trade.

After 2 weeks he took the horse to an auction, worked one horse for 8 days and never saw him again. He has a big smile and will tell you what you want to hear..... he is a true con man. While purchasing alfalfa I ran into a man that also had bad dealings with this person and he did the same thing to him. He is not a man of his word and I would not recommend him.......Beware!

Rebuttal to Connie Fisher's Complaint

AUTHOR: Chappell Perf Horses - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 10, 2009

My husband, Miguel, and I have been in business together for 2 years, and Miguel has been in business solo for over twenty-five years. It is disturbing to me to see that a client would challenge the integrity of our business and our ethics.

Chappell Performance Horse did indeed construct a verbal contract with Connie Fisher to do some horse training for her with her Warm bloods. It is a fact that she did pay us $350.00 in November of 2008, for 30 days of training. We usually charge a client $500.00 if they provide the feed, and $600.00 if we are responsible for feed. So, we cut Connie Fisher a deal. During the first week of training we were extremely diligent about working Connie's horses at her ranch, which we do not normally do. We require that the horse is boarded at our facility for convenience, and our clients are welcome to observe training at any time. During the time we trained at Connie's Ranch we were continually requested to help her with odd jobs. This demand on our time effected our commitments of training other horses at R Place Ranch.

We did, in fact, attend a horse sale after six days of training Connie's horses, as do most other trainers. Upon our arrival home the weather was in deed too poor to continue training in Connie's outdoor facility. Connie did suggest that we suspend training until the weather improved.

When the weather cleared up we were busy on R Place Ranch trying to run our own business. We then offered to resume training if Connie was willing to board her horses at the R Place Ranch, feed provided for no extra charge. She had fears of her horses catching strangles, and did not want them boarded, though we have not had strangles on the Ranch for years. However, she did come over and trail-ride on the Ranch, a month prior to this incident, and strangles were not an issue then.

As for the horse she traded us, whom she (Connie Fisher) valued at $5000.00, did in fact sell, at a Registered Horse Sale in Central California, for $400.00. We did hold our end of the bargain in starting two more colts for Connie. Now, we are back at square one, Connie not taking our offer to board and train her horses on R Place Ranch, to continue training.

I believe we have done everything in our power, short of returning her money, which is the offer that is still on the table.

I finally said something to the people he is living with. He then called and told me not to bad mouth him, that he would give back my money tomorrow. I replied with, if anyone asks, I would only tell them the truth. I have not heard from him since. I also traded one of my warmbloods (value $5,000.00 or more) for him or Terri to get on 2 horses for the first time and to put 30 days on another. His helper, Terri worked with horse for 6 days, and then another 2 days over a 4 month period. He caused some problems because he rushed the training, so Miguel put 6 days on this horse and that was the last I heard from these two.
When he firsts meets you, Miguel has a great big smile and is full of stories, he will tell you what you want to hear about your horses.........he is a true con man......Beware!
