Have the WORST experience today dealing with your insurance. My company doesn't have enough employees in Texas for me to qualify for an HMO Plan, so I'm stuck on your PPO. I went to the dentist yesterday who attempted 4 extractions and failed at number 3 leaving a VERY painful half tooth left in my mouth, I filled a tramadol / t3 script yesterday, which DID NOTHING for level of pain I was in. I went to oral surgeon today, to do 3 more extractions and complete the half tooth. I have had 7 extractions in 2 days, and I'm standing in Walgreen BLEEDING and in terrible pain to be told, you WON'T Process my medication because it's two close to another short acting opioid RX. WHO AND THE HECK ARE YOU to have a computer decide what I need to treat my pain. That's what I pay doctors for. YOUR POLICIES ARE AWFUL. As soon as I can switch off your policy I will, it has been a nightmare of issues.

The issue wasnt the amount dispensed but rather them having filled tramadol the day before, and the surgeon proscribing vicodin yesterday. Tramadol did not touch the pain of the fractured tooth. The pharmacist had no issues with filling it out of pocket (not large amount). What I'm pissed at is Anthems Opioid Reduction policy denying my coverage and causinge to pay $50 for what should have been $10. Their "policy" prevents them having to pay for the RX, not decreasing dangerous amounts of opioids, this is the job of the dr. and pharmacist, no corporate execs. This is a direct result of raising profit margin at detriment of the patient.

This most likely has NOTHING to do wtih your insurance.  Tramadol is a Scheudle IV drug and is regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency.  As such there are limits as to the amount you can be legally prescribed in a certain amount of time.  It also takes into account any other "Schedule" drugs you may have been prescribed.

If you have too many prescriptions in a given amount of time, you can not legally be prescribed more.  Since it is a Schedule Drug every prescription is registered and tracked.   If you did exceed it and the pharmacist did give you the prescription then the pharmacist could not only lose their license they could actually be arrested and charged criminally.

But if you really want to test this.  One thing you could try is to have your prescription filled and tell them that you will instead pay for it out of pocket.  At this point your insurance would be out of the picture and can't deny or approve you getting the prescription.  It is now in the hands of the pharmacy.  If it is still denied that pretty much should prove the reason.
