Anythonys Key Resort Is In my honest OPINION, Is A Ripoff!
Taking A Cruise? And, Traveling to Roatan Honduras Anythonys Key Resort Dolphin Encounter is in my opinion, a ripoff. At Anthonys Key Resort customers will pay to have a dolphin encounter, however, the encounter is nothing more than a payment to have your photo taken with a dolphin with the option to purchase a photo.
You'll be lured to believe that you will have a dolphin encounter for 30 minutes for $65. What it boils down to is a 5 minute boat ride to a pin of dolphins. You'll then spend another 10 minutes being told how to pose with a dolphin. Another 10 minutes waiting for everyone to have their picture taken with the dolphin by Anthonys Key Resort photographers. (Yeah, Anthonys Key Resort has their own photographers and you'll be told to leave your camera in a locker before entering the water with the dolphins. They will not allow you to take photos while your with the dolphin.)
Finally, The last of the 5 minutes consist of Anthony key resort staff telling you that you'll need to go back to the boat at which point they'll take you directly to the Anthony Key Resort's gift shop where they will try and SELL you the photos that they, Anthonys Key Resort staff, took with the dolphin.
The price of each photo is 15.00 but wait, there is a minimum of two photos! Basically you'll be expected to pay 30.00 for two pictures or about they will tell you that you can get all pictures which consist of about 4 pictures for 45.00 or 50.00. The photos will not be printed but instead, saved on a small sd card which is worth about 2.00 dollars based on the sd cards that I purchased before my trip to Roatan. While at the akr shop, You'll be shown high quality photos on a video screen (which natually look great) but in reality, you'll get less than professional quality photos in return as the mega pixel is not very high. (Note: Each photo is 2 mega pixels.)
You can verify the truthfulness of this unbiased review by going to the Anthonys Key Resort web site and click on the Dolphin Beach Encounter link and then click on the link which reads, "Order your online photos here" - Here they have photos (downloadable) for sale for $18.00 each. Guess what? They hardly ever update their photo site so most likely you'll never see your photo for sale online.
How would I know? Well, when I was at Anthonys Key Resort, I told them that I didn't want two pictures. I only wanted the one picture. I said that I didn't want to pay 30.00 bucks for a single picture but did want a photo to at least put in my travel log showing that I had been there. I was told that, If I only wanted a single picture, I would have to go to their website (akrshops.com) aka AKR Shops and purchase it there...
Nightmare continued....
After returning home from my extended vacation, I went to their website akrshops.com several times, to purchase my photo, however, I came to the realization that I can't purchase my picture online as they haven't updated their photo site since April 23rd, 2013. It is now, May 7, 2013.... 14 days later and nothing has been updated. Who knows whether I will ever see my photo or not? This is absolutely Terrible! This is not what I or any traveler should or would consider a professional business practice. In my opinion, it is a clear reflection of how they do business. This is something you should take in consideration before booking your trip to Anthonys Key Resort. Please, Please... take a moment to go to akrshops.com and click on the link which reads, "Shop Photo" and see when for yourself how long its been since their photo site was updated!!! Then go back to it daily to see how often they update the site. How many photos do they leave out?
It's a Case of the Review sites saying one thing, but in reality, the true nature of the business seemed to me based on my opinion, something different. This is sad to me as I travel alot and rely on sites to give honest reviews but sometimes in amongst reviews, sometimes the truth is vague as businesses may have people post reviews for them? This may not have been what Anthonys Key Resort done? but it raised questions??? after reading reviews and then going there myself I couldn't help but wonder. After returning home, I went to travelocity to post my rating and review but it was never approved by travelocity. Again, I wonder why? Although my review wasn't approved. I managed to find a few other people who was allowed to post negative reviews about anthony's key resort.
Anthonys Key usually preys on cruise ship customers as they bring the most 'reliable' source of money during the off season according to some of the locals I spoke with. Travelers should be made aware of all the facts prior taking a trip to Anthonys Key Resort so that they won't be let down or leave feeling like they were ripped off as we did.
If you don't mind paying for being hustled into having your photo taken with a pinned up dolphin and later hustled into paying for 2 megapix photo, which look great to show off to your friends. Then go for it. Now that I am aware of their operation, I will not go back to Anthonys Key Resort FOR ANYTHING and I certainly can't recommend Anthonys Key Resort to my friends.
Additionally, If you go to Anthonys Key Resort for their beach.. You'll be let down as they don't really have a beach from what I could tell from what I seen. They basically ruined the coral around their shacks by building them on living coral. If you care about marine life, think twice before supporting businesses who value money over the environment.
Seeing the lack of professionalism, photo enhanced photos of Anthonys Key Resort is misleading. I wouldn't be surprised if the over rated, ratings were paid for by anthonys resort. Be careful. Talk to other travelers about this complaint and get their opinion about Anthonys Key Resort. This complaint should be viewed as a single persons opinion and complaint about what one person considers bad business conduct. Respectively, everyone has their own opinion. Your opinion of the business may differ from the person posting this opinion or complaint about this business. It is only wise for you to do your homework before traveling to this destination. I cannot tell you what you should do or what you shouldn't do. I can only tell you, based on my opinion that I will not go back to Anthonys key resort and I certainly wouldn't recommend this resort to my friends.
