A warning popped up on my computer saying that my computer was at risk for spyware, adware, and viruses. I completed their scan of my files and found out that my computer was infected. When I found out it was going to cost me $49.95 I tried going on to Comcast who I have service through to download McAfee. The ad for Anti Virus 2009 kept popping up and kicking me off the internet and would not allow me to log onto Comcast to even check my email. I was not able to do anything at all on my computer because the ad would not go away. So I purchased the Anti Virus 2009 for $49.95 on my credit card. After I paid for it I was able to check my email and had an email from them confirming my order. It sent me a registration code to register and download their product. When I tried to register it told me that my email address was invalid. I never could get it working and when I went to the web address they gave me for technical help it did not exist. All I want is my hard earned money back.

The 2009 Anti-Virus Is A SCAM

AUTHOR: Don & Wanda Reed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 14, 2009

Kathy..My brother-in-law, had the same problem as you did quite a few months ago..Out of the blue that "popup" appeared..Kept reappearing too..My brother-in-law (Bobby) didn't know what to do, so because I am pretty familiar with computers/internet I looked at his computer..The popup (2009 Anti-Virus) wanted to run a scan..I declined doing that, because I knew there was something wrong..Against my wishes, Bobby ran the scan, and the results showed hundreds of problems; serious problems, and wanted to be paid $49.95 to fix the problems..Well that just made the situation worse..The 2009 Anti-Virus installed itself..So I went into add/remove to try and uninstall it..Wouldn't work..No matter what I tried, it wouldn't remove..I had wondered if doing a complete "restore" on his laptop might work, but then I thought if a "trojan/virus/worm" whatever imbedded itself, doing a restore would not eliminate this type of serious problem..So I told Bobby, my guess was that he had a "trojan" in his laptop, and to take it to Office Depot for them to look further into it.."Sure enough they told him that is exactly what happened"..Not only does this SCAM take your money but also installs a serious "bug" to where as Bobby took his laptop into Office Depot, and they had to do a complete redo of his laptop..Costed Bobby almost $200's also..Office Depot told Bobby that his sister-in-law (myself) was "exactly correct on her findings and suggestions"..Here is a suggestion my dad always planted into "us kids" heads.."When In Doubt Bail Out!!"..Good Luck..Hope this was helpful to you and others that have or may experience this seriois SCAM..

Charge back

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 14, 2009

They are a scam!

You need to call your credit card company and request a charge back for fraudulent product. Do a google for them and you'll see a host or articles about their adware/malware.

You were correct to attempt to download Mcafee (or some other REPUTABLE antivirus protection.) Now that you're back online, follow thru and get some real network protection.

Further, you need to completely uninstall their crap. There are many articles on the web to instruct you how to do this.

Good luck.
