AOL has been charging me for an authorized, unused broadband account since March of 2004. I have repeatedly contacted them to have this account canceled and my credit card reimbursed. On every occasion I was assured it was taken care of and I received several confirmation and operator numbers.

I finally disputed the charges with my credit card company only to find out that they would only investigate charges under 90 days.

After wasting a considerable amount of time on hold I managed to speak with a representative that would only agree to a partial reimbursement and 6 months free service. I canceled my existing account immediatly. I contacted my credit card company and closed the account so they couldn't continue to charge me.

AOL has been charging me for an unauthorized, unused broadband account for over 6 months

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, October 04, 2004

AOL has been charging me for an unauthorized, unused broadband account for over 6 months. I have repeatedly contacted them to have this account canceled and the fraudulent charges taken off my credit card. On every occasion I was assured it would be taken care of and was provided yet a new confirmation number every time.
I spoke with Chase Bank regarding this on going abuse and a representative stated that this seemed to be common practice for AOL.
After considerable trouble contacting a customer service rep I was told that AOL would only reimburse me for 3 of the charges. They offered me 6 months free service on my existing account. I canceled my account and had no choice but to close my credit account to prevent them from charging me again.
Please don't take my word only. Everyone I've told already knew of their business practices. I'm just pissed they didn't tell me first.
