When I went on my interview I was told that I was guaranteed $300 week but I should make no less than $600/week. I was told that health insurance was available. I started working for the company to find that most people barely brought home $200/wk and I was only bringing $400/wk home. There was NO guarantee of anything! I was working 70+ hours/wk! M-Sat and pushed to work on Sundays. Insurance was available if I wanted to purchase it and we all know how expensive insurance is these days!

You had to be a favorite of the owner, Karen, or you got crappy events and since you work on 100% commission, it would make a HUGE difference, whether you know how to sell products or not! If you have kids, forget about this company too! Karen has very little tolerance for kids, no sympathy for you when you have to take day off due to your kids. So, if you were out sick ONE day, the next day or even week expect to have a bad event given to you! It's all about kissing butt to make it in this business!

Karen has had 1 failed attempt to open an outside office, which is how people get their own business. Now, after more than 1 year she supposedly is opening another office where other offices have opened 3+ by now! She is horrible at money management.

Her business suave consists of at least 1-2 F words in a sentence. She yells at people and talks down to them to make them feel worthless! She talks degrading about people behind their back.

So the events, employees go to events that are supposedly already approved to set up outside and too many times the employees get to the site and are yelled at saying they are not welcomed, or kicked out of the site half way through the day. Then Karen expects the people to go to other businesses to make sure they sell at least $300 retail each day....if not, bad event the next day.

Employees get paid 35% commission of the retail sale; supposedly 20% goes back to the nonprofit. Karen is bringing in approx $1000 day for herself! She will tell her employees that's why you have to work hard to get to management, when she has employees who lose their home, can't pay their bills and finally catch on that the dream is a little less likely. In order to get to management one must recruit 5 people on their team, which is very hard! But if you don't do it, then there is apparently something wrong with YOU!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

KAREN BUSHNELL IS A GOOD PERSON

AUTHOR: Katie Perkins - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 15, 2008

I also worked for Karen Bushnell at Apex Promotions. I started in Jan. of 2008 and stayed until Feb. of 2008. When I first went I had my first interview, then later got called back to my second interview. I loved every second of working at that job. I had not been a very positive person until I worked there and I had never pushed myelf to strive for something so hard. The ONLY reason I quit was because I couldn't afford the gas money to drive from my house to Buford, then to a locationl, then back to Buford then home- 6 days a week. But just because I didn't make enough money does not mean that it was Karen's or the company's fault. The way I saw it; there is no "bad" event location, just slow days. The economy is horrible right now and people are not very trustworthy.
As for your petty talk about Karen having favorites and not caring about your home situation?! NOT TRUE!!!! When it was icy out, Karen would call me and tell me if I couldn't make it- it would be okay. But I would be outside waiting for the ice to melt so I could get to work. I was most certainly not a favorite because she had no favorites. I would stand in the freezing cold outside Ingles or Kmart or Publix until 8:00pm sometimes just to make $300. Not for Karen or to impress her, but for me, for MY personal satisfaction. If you are a lazy person and do not care to achieve goals or have a positive output on life- don't work here. but if you do care--It is a wonderful place to work. I know that I helped a non-profit org. to help find missing children and THAT should be satisfaction enough.
ALSO, Karen had "Team Night" every Wednesday. And we would just goof off and hang out- go bowling, or eat somewhere. Show me another job where your boss/owner WANTS to be with his or her employees after work. Not many places like that. If I could afford to go back, I would BEG for my job back.
I think Apex Promotions Inc. is doing a great job and Karen is as well.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Apex

AUTHOR: Carrot - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 22, 2008

I used to work for Apex Promotions and i just want to give my side. Karen Bushnell is great person and is willing to help anyone no matter what the issue is. Yes in this comany you do work long hours 12 hour days monday through saturday but there training you to be a manager in 7 to 12 months instead of 5 to 10 years. Thats alot to learn in a short period of time. Yes it is comission based but everyone is told that on there observation day. You go to events and your not supervised there is no one there to make sure you talk to every customer. If you got a salary for that you would not work hard and if you dont work hard how the hell are you going to be a successful manager? So people in the office work there butts off because literally you write your own paycheck. And for people who like to work hard and get things done its perfect.

Karen does pick favorites she picks those people who work their a*s off everyday and give 110% from the time they walk through the door till the time they leave. I dont know about you but those people would be my favorite too.

If you have kids the biz may not be for you. It all depends on you. When you walk through the door you are told the hours that we work. If you cant handle it then its not for you. But its not Karen's fault when you are informed on exactly how the program works.

When it comes to who gets to go to what event you have to prove yourself to karen before you can get all good events. If you can set the pace ($300 retail) at a slower event then she know you work hard and give it your all so you deserve good events. But your in a biz where a manager is going to invest money in you to give you your own office. You have to prove yourself to that person.

Karen's first outside deal did fail. Maybe there is somethings Karen could have done better but once you open its up to you how you do. There are over 100 managers you can call to get advice from if your struggling. when it comes down to it, its all based on how hard you want to work. The only people who fail in the biz are the ones who give up.

Yes sometimes there are event issues but either a customer did not like the way you talked to them and complained or yes the event coordinator screwed up. So what s**t happens in any buisness. for example you have someone who really wants to buy a car and they are excited and then you pull there credit and they dont qualify. s**t happends.

You have to build a team you have to be able to teach and train a group of people to be just as good as you are at the biz. Then you have to teach them how to teach other people. Yeah its hard but how the hell can you run an office if you dont do that first? If you can teach a small group to do it how are you going to teach 15 to 40 people to do it?

I no longer work for apex but i can say that i love the biz and it is an awesome oppty. You just have to be a hard worker and know that if you give 110% in the end that is what you will get back. As for Karen she is just trying to find those people who want an oppty to be there own boss.

Like i said its not for everyone. Not everyone is suppose to run there own office one day. Some people need someone to tell them what to do. But dont be mad cause you didn't make it. It just wasnt for you. I left the biz because of person reasons not because i dont believe in it. I would recommend it to any young person out there who wants the same oppty as others not based on there age.
