Ripoff Report Verified REVIEW:

EDitors UPDATE: Positive rating and recognition has been given to APEX Alarm for its commitment to excellence in customer service.

Ripoff Reports discussions with the company have uncovered an ongoing commitment to total customer satisfaction. You can expect to have any questions or concerns that you have with them to be answered and resolved in a timely manner. They have shown us their customer service process, and it reflects a desire to serve customers, as well as fix problems.

The company's management specifically told us about how their job is to simplify lives and help people to live intelligently. The management really wants every person who buys a system to feel valued. The concern for each customer's experience starts at the top, and is reflected in the action of every employee they hire.

The company also works to monitor their sales and customer support calls to see how they can be improved. They use these calls as examples for employees in training. Currently, Vivint is working to make changes to their contracts to make things easier for their customers as they have found that many of their complaints stem from feeling misled or customers paid fees they did not feel they authorized.

Apex Alarm Systems  SCAM BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE Kenosha, Wisconsin

Unfortunately, this is a very bad review. I say unfortunately because they actually did a good job for us when we had their service for over 4 years. The problem appeared when we sold our home and attempted to discontinue service.

While we had signed a 1 year contract with Apex Alarm Systems and happily used their service for over 4 years, when we called to discontinue service they claimed that the contract was still in force and we would have to pay for 6 additional months of monitoring that we would not actually be using. They based their claim on an "automatically renewing" contract...something which, we've since learned, is apparently the stuff of unscrupulous health clubs and other "membership" type scams.

The owner of Apex Alarm Systems did offer, out of the kindness of his heart, to forgive the debt if we allowed him to come into our home and retrieve some parts from the system, which we agreed to do. The appointment was set, we were standing by, and nobody ever showed up. The sold house closed a week or so later and we moved on.

Several weeks after this, a bill came to our new address which showed that the tech was dispatched on the wrong day, if at all. We called the owner and spoke with him in an effort to come to a reasonable agreement, with no success. We finally realized that Apex Alarm Systems never had an intention of coming into our house to take back the (now used) parts...which are probably worth $20. They really just wanted to hassle us until we paid them the money so that we could move on with our lives.

As it stands now, they have hired a collection agency to ding our credit report, and we have hired an attorney. I would rather pay the attorney ten times the amount this dishonest man says we owe him. Probably not the smart thing to do...that would have been to run the other way when we saw him coming.

I STRONGLY recommend to anyone reading this to RUN AWAY from Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha WI. At the very minimum, read the fine print and refuse to sign an automatically renewing contract with Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha Wisconsin or anyone for that matter.

AUTHOR: Brad - (United States of America)

I'm the original poster, thanks for the helpful comments.  I do read contracts after this episode.  My concern continues to be with the owner of Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha, WI.  Even though automatically renewing contracts are widely used by alarm systems, gym memberships, etc. this does not make them a legitimate or consumer friendly business practice.  In fact, we signed up for ADT in our new residence and they agreed to strike the auto-renew fine print from the contract.  Additionally, their alarm is much nicer with better features AND the monthly monitoring price is considerably less than the fee Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha had charged us.

At any rate, this business owner could have showed up when he said he would in order to pull the alarm parts and "forgive the rest of the agreement" as he said he would do.  Or, he had the authority to forgive the contract and make a customer happy with the final outcome of hopefully getting some referral business. Instead, he decided to see how much money he could fleece out of us simply by being a pain in the butt.  This is why I recommend to anyone reading this to stay away from Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha.  Also, he has changed his business name or added the name "Alarm Detection Systems".  This appears to be the same business and is at the same address as Apex Alarm Systems in Kenosha.  Not sure why a business owner would need to change or add another name to his business...but I can make a few guesses.

#2 Consumer Comment

Good luck with your lawsuit.

Have you read your contract yet?

You will have a hard time finding ANY alarm company that doesn't have this  clause in the agreement you sign.

APX did, ADT and Vivint do.

Use this as a lesson to read the contracts before signing.

I would bet, if you really do have an attorney, that you are wasting your money and if this attorney accepts the case, is at the least, suspect.
