When first moving to Ellijay, we encountered a stray dog - beautiful bulldog - running down the middle of the freeway. Not being knowledgeable of the area, we took her to Appalachian Animal Hospital. They appeared to aloof and non caring but we thought this to be just in our "heads" at the time. We treated the Bulldog (heart worms & removal of a bad eye). The dog had been shot in the head.

We have Jack Russell Terriers but we took them for their wellness trips to Ellijay Animal Hospital because we had heard they were more reasonable and very loving to animals. So True!!! Man what a difference.

We continued to take our Bulldog to Appalachian for follow ups but they still seemed to be non caring - not knowledgeable and very expensive. Just a cold place in general. How cold?? I just recently found out!!!

It seems I have a magnet on my forhead saying "stray animal" find me! I just recently found three tiny kittens in the middle of the road. Someone had put them in a ditch. There were four but one was killed. Needless to say, I could not keep the precious animals so I fed them, watered them and kept them comfort that night - found them at 10 at night.

The next morning. I got up at 4:45 PM and took them to Appalachian Animal Hospital because they had advertised they worked in the community, etc. I also knew they opened at 7 AM and thought they would be there early and could contact Homeward Bound or some group that could get the kittens. I couldn't do this since I work an hour away and have to be at work at 7 and do not get home until after 7 pm. Animal Control hours are 8 to 5 and some days 3 pm.

I left my name and number and a letter of apoogy and asked if they could please call one of the groups they were affiliated with to take the kittens. I even called after they opened to confirm the kittens were okay and apologize in person. HOW RUDE they were.

I certainly found out how un-caring they were. They were angry and were very rude to me. I even called animal control for them and they agreed to pick them up. In no way was AAH inconvenienced. They claimed people left animals all the time. BUT aren't these people trying to do the right thing? Also, I left my number and name to be responsible. They were still RUDE. I guess they've lost ALL Compassion and no wonder they have a bad rep!! Needless to say - I"LL NEVER enter there doors again - and You shouldn't either - If you love your animal!!

Updated Response

AUTHOR: Gilmer county residents - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 09, 2009

First of all, thank you to those who provided responses, yes even "Have you lost your mind".  Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As in everyday life, individuals have different experiences.  In my original report and with all of my visits to AAH, I did go into AAH with a positive attitude but received a negative one back.  Thank you Blue Ridge for your response.....you are correct....it was the reception area that was rude to me each time.  So, I cannot state, the Vet Tech's or the Vet's were rude.  They were not.  So I'm updating my original report to reflect that.  Each time, it was the experience I encountered with the front office...the lack of knowledge, the lack of personality...etc.

To anonymous - "have you lost your mind", please re-read the TOS.  Also, as a responsible, mature grown up, I will provide no response to your negative posting.  I would never stoop to that level.  I am fortunate.....I can take the ugly with the pretty with a grain of salt!!  One point you made, that dropping off the kittens was illegal...never even crossed my mind.  Helping the kittens was all I could think of.  Point taken for future reference.  As far as actually abandoning them though, someone had beat me to that!

To those who are happy with AAH.  Great!  That means there are some happy animals attending this clinic and that is good.  As for my "crews" happiness...we find it at Ellijay Animal Hospital.  But I won't say that I will NEVER give AAH another try...I may have to one day.

Response to Responses

AUTHOR: Gilmer county residents - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 09, 2009

Thank you to those who have responded.  As in any business, there will be differences of opinion on treatment and different experiences for individuals.  As a positive person, I have always entered into an agreement or business with a positive attitude.  So to the responder that implied perhaps a negative attitude was given, therefore received, that is inaccurate.  I am glad others have had positive experiences with this clinic because that means there are some happy animals calling Appalachian Animal Hospital home.  It just so happens that in my case, each experience was not a pleasant one and I have encountered many other Ellijay residents with the same outcome...negative.  Regardless, I will continue to always be an animal lover and always assist a distressed animal.  To the responders of this report.....thank you - your comments do help.  Thanks to Blue Ridge for supporting the TOS and showing much professionalism.  To the disturbed responder, "Have you lost your mind"...I have no comment for you.  Out of respect for the TOS and as a mature, responsible "grown up", I do not feel the need to stoop to your level.  As far as the legalities of "dropping" the kittens off at the vet's office, chalk it up to not knowing that was actually illegal.  As far as abandoning the babies...someone had already beat me to that!  It never crossed my mind but is a good point.

I do wish all who do go to AAH, the best of luck and to those of you who are happy, continued happiness.  In my case, I have found that to be Ellijay Animal Hospital.

Response to - to the individual who posted "Lost my Mind???

AUTHOR: Gilmer county residents - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, October 09, 2009

First of all, thank you to Concerned, Blue Ridge.  You are correct, the individual that posted the rude response did violate the TOS.  Obviously, the person has some deep rooted issues of anger and apparently utilzes these sites as a method of therapy.

I agree that the individual who took the kittens was a kind hearted person.  The possibility of these innocent kittens being attacked by a "predator" was much higher while they were abandoned on the road.

Yes, I too have been to Appalachian Animal Hospital and have been rudely approached.  You are correct, Blue Ridge, about the reception area and I feel certain this is who responded to the lady who dropped off the kittens.  At least they were safe and provided for.

Jail?  Come on responder?  That's ridiculous?  Cruelty to Animals?  That's really ridiculous.

Maybe Appalachian will see this and do something about the attitude of the reception area.  To  the lady who posted originally - BRAVO - you are to be commended for taking the time to take the kittens to an area where they were safe and would be cared for.

Posters, please do not use this website for therapy for your aggessions.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Absolutely not true

AUTHOR: Concerned - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 23, 2009

Your perception of this company is erroneous. They are, by far, the most caring, gentle and compassionate pet doctors that I have ever met. Even more than your general medical doctor! They will go out of their way to help, even coming to the scene of a wreck or a home to care for the animals. We do not have a humane society in Gilmer County, and therefore, people suppose that they can just leave stray animals on their doorstep. If the original author does not wish to care for the animals, please do not pick them up just to put them off on someone else. You think you are doing a good thing, but unless you yourself are going to care for the animals, or have someone lined up to care for them, please do not assume that someone else wants to care for them. You probably wouldn't want someone to assume that they could just drop off a pet at your home just because you love and care about animals.

You should give AAH another chance. And go in with a positive attitude. Because they WILL help you and do it with pleasure and compassion. Both positive and negative attitudes rub off onto the people you are dealing with.

To the above "unknown" responder...

To the OP,

I commend you for taking the kittens to the AAH. Maybe it was wrong but it's the best and nicest a LOT of people think of to save animals lives. I'm sorry you recieved a rude response, from them and the unkind people above.

My interactions with AAH have been mixed.

The Drs. seem to have a lot of compassion but the reception area always has been cold as ice. Those girls seem to compete with each other for authority, even giving patients erroneous information that has been detrimental to my pet. They are cold and unfriendly when you walk in there, as if they think they can run you off for interrupting their day.

Such hostile attitudes are not necessarily unique to AAH though, and can be discovered in some "good old boys" native businesses around town.

Anyway, you're not entirely wrong. AAH does have a reputation for sucking people's wallets dry while providing unfriendly interactions. I do feel though, they have improved in the area of compassion, at least, once you final get into an exam room.

You have lost your mind!!

AUTHOR: Unknown- Ellijay, Ga - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 26, 2008

Lady are you out of your mind? It is unlawful to leave animals even if it is at a vets office. Just because you left your name and number doesn't make it ok. They should have you sent to jail! Do you think that you are SOOOOO great because you "SAVED" these kittens? You are a total retard! Yopu left them in a box which could have easily been raided by any predator. You endangered their lives and could have caused their death. You believe you were being "responsible" but you were COMPLETELY wrong. You should consider yourself extremely lucky to not have been thrown in jail for illegal dumping and cruelty to animals. The responsible thing to have done would have been to take them to a shelter yourself! You made them someone elses problem! GROW UP!!!

Appalachian Animal Hospital LOVES Animals

AUTHOR: Pet Lover - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 20, 2008

I have to strongly disagree with this persons report. I am a long time client of Appalachian Animal Hospital and have never, ever found them to be cold or uncaring--totally the opposite. I have several pets and foster animals for a rescue group and find myself at there office on a monthly if not more frequent basis. They have been there for me late at night with emergencies (by the way no other animal hospital in Ellijay does this or has their early and late hours) The Dr's have gone out of their way time and time again to help me and my pets. While in the lobby waiting to see the vet, I hear the receptionist helping clients with many varying problems. I have myself been there early in the morning when an incident like the one this writer is describing actually happened, someone had abandoned puppies on their doorstep in a cardboard box. While the writer did the "responsible" thing by leaving her name and number she is missing the point. Appalachian Animal Hospital is there for pets because they have PROVEN to me that they love them, however they are not a humane society and while there during this incident I learned that it is absolutely ILLEGAL to abandon (leave an animal on someone's doorstep) any animal anywhere. I'm sure that Appalachian wasn't rude but was simply trying to express that they aren't a humane society. I would recommend to anyone to ignore this writer's comment and visit Appalachian Animal Hospital. I am very involved in the community and have only ever heard GREAT things about them!
