We bought a brand new washer and dryer set on June 29, 2007. These were delivered and installed in our NEW home on July 14, 2007. On July 15, 2008, I called Amana to report a problem with the dryer. Their response was that my warranty expired on June 29, 2008. I explained to them that from June 29 to July 14, 2007, the appliances were in the warehouse at the place of purchase, and NOT in use. I was transfered to an office of higher authority and they offer to pay parts only. I asked what the service call would cost me. Service is $65 service call and $65 per hour labor.

This would be acceptable to me if the warranty had expired a few months ago, but 17 DAYS! I will refain from purchasing any Amana, Whirlpool, or Maytag products in the future.

Warranty Timeline

AUTHOR: Sarah - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 23, 2008

The warranty timeline is clearly explained when purchased. The warranty is valid 1 year from time of purchase (not time of first use). All consumers are aware of warranties and if you ignore the expiration that is your own fault not the fault of the company. As with a car, if your warranty expires after 30,000 miles a normal consumer would bring it in to be serviced (at minimum inspected) before you reach the 30,000 mile mark. I believe that the offer to pay for the parts was a reasonable comprimise considering your warranty had expired. If you were on the phone with GE, LG, Sears (for Kenmore), Samsung, etc. you would have received the same response.

Companies need to stick to the rules they set otherwise they would have to make exceptions for everyone.

Most appliances are made by these companies

AUTHOR: Matt - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I wish you the best of luck with your problem. I just had delivered today a Kenmore Elite dishwasher and when I had it turned over to connect the water and drain lines, several parts were labeled Whirlpool. These companies (Amana I believe is now owned by Whirlpool and Kenmore is made by Whirlpool) along with several others make the majority of appliances sold today.

Two companies that do make their own is Miele and Bosch. You may hear from people that have problems with these brands but most are pretty happy. My brother has bought a Miele dishwasher for $2000!!! The prices are definitely higher but usually have better quality.

Good luck with getting Amana/Whirlpool to cover the cost of your repairs. You may just want to take the part and eat the service call. Most parts are kind of expensive depending on exactly what is wrong. With most things being electronic rather than electro-mechanical, the prices have really gone up!

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

AUTHOR: Bigcraig - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Ask Amana to reconsider, I believe the above Federal law covers warranties and yours started on the date of delivery, received date.

We bought new appliances a year in advance before and the warranty started when we signed for there delivery.
