Arizona Mobile Access Technologies (AMAT) is interested only in one thing, keeping you as a paying customer.  AMAT provides an ignition interlock device to people who have had a DUI conviction in Arizona.  For this service you pay roughly $85.00 per month.  However, they will require you to pay $85.00 every time you violate one of their protocols.  So here is how it works.

You get the device installed in your vehicle.  Once installed you will be required to blow in it to start your car.  You can drive as long as your BAC is less than .03.  In other words you can have a bud light, but may not want to have a cocktail or higher alcohol content beer.  In fact you could have just a sip of a cocktail and realize your car is parked to close to your wifes, go to move it, and violate the .03 rule.  Now what happens when your BAC is higher than .03?  Nothing, at first, you simply must wait to start your car until your BAC is back to an acceptable level.  However, you have to be careful because if you have more than five of these in a given period or you will go into what is called a lockout and have to pay another $85.00.  Mouthwash also could trigger such a reading, as can certain fruits and foods.

There is also a lockout for .08 or above.  If you receive 3 of these in a year they will extend your ignition interlock for another year.  Mouthwash can also do this.  However the real reason for this little blip is the rolling retest.  The machine is set to randomly go off as you are driving.  If you fail to blow within 5 minutes you go into a lockout.  This is also punishable by an additional year.  Now here is where profitability and justice should ultimately be considered, but are not at this money grubbing shop.

I had a dead battery.  The voltage reading on the device confirms this information.  I went inside to alter my plans but left the keys in the on position.  Ok, so looking back this is a stupid thing, I didnt do it intentionally, but I was scrambling to change plans.  When I returned to the car the rolling retest had gone off and I was in a lockout for another $85.00, but also another year.  I called my brother immediately, had him jump the car and follow me down to the office so that I could prove that there was no alcohol on my breath, and that the battery was dead.  They, after witnessing me blow in the machine and get a .000 BAC, would not remove the reading and sent it off to the DMV so that I could get another year.  I came back the next day with proof from AAA battery readings and receipts from the Lexus dealership, and they still would not help.

These idiots, and I do mean idiots, are more interested in lining their pockets than making sure that justice is served.  Let me just tell you that this is supposed to be a service oriented business, and I have called 4 of the 8 or so other Ignition Interlock companies that are out there.  All of them said that had their client don this they would have sent the necessary items to the DMV so that the client would not have had another year.  The girls in the front office are the ugliest souls you have ever encountered.  They are rude, uneducated, and probably make very little money which explains why they treat their position of power with such disrespect.  After all they would never have this power in another position.  They would be little receptionists with no personality, class, or intelligence.  PLEASE, FOR YOUR OWN BENEFIT, DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!!!  The attorney general has now been contacted and so has the consumer department of fraud.

Spot on!

The original poster is correct, they are not to be trusted. I just filled out my own report on them after finding them on my credit report for collections. They will do whatever it takes to keep you paying them for as long as possible. The females in the Mesa office were very authoritative and unwilling to help you do anything other than pay them. There was a latino male that was much easier to work wtih and more or less "just doing my job" kinda guy. If you were denied thier insurance for some friviolous, unimaginable reason I share in your frustration. I can't even find them now which tells me they might have scammed one too many customer and shut up shop before it became a monetary problem for them. Good riddance.

Do Not Insult

I am a customer of Az Mobile Access. They were on a list, they were close, so I chose them.

This is the second time I've had the misfortune of having an interlock device in my car, and the second time I've used AMAT. Guess what? The first time I used them? they were good. Now? They're great. I've had made some mistakes with the equipment. They've worked with me, and never charged me a penny more. The comment about their looks, surprised me. I was surprised it was printed. Let's just say that their looks were unappealing. Does that really matter? I hope not. But, they are a group of younger, attractive individuals, who have shown nothing but professionalism towards me. I am extremely pleased that I chose this company.

Arizona Mobile Access Technologies has responded to this complaint in a reasonable and timely manner.  It is for this reason that I retract my statements about AMAT.  The complaint to the Attorney General's office has also been dropped.
