After a friend of mine paid me for letting him crash at my place for a week, I decided to use some of the money to take my lovely girlfriend out for a nice Saturday evening. The "Myster Dinner" theater looked unique and fun, so I bought us two tickets for the show on Saturday, July 20th.

That night, we arrive at the location - the Courtyard Marriott in Arlington - only to be told by the hotel staff that the shows have been cancelled until further notice. I took out my phone and called the number on the tickets, and received no answer. I looked at the website, which provided no information. I googled the place and found nothing about it having closed.

The following week, I e-mailed them and left a voicemail with them about obtaining a refund, which I had never received. When we'd inquired with the hotel staff, they said the theater's organizers had claimed to have refunded everyone's money, which they obviously had not - not only had we not been informed of the cancellation, but checking my bank account deposits, I had not received a refund either. Thus I asked the organizers how to go about obtaining one.

It's now been about a week since I contacted them (about 10 days since the cancelled show was scheduled) and still nothing. I tried calling again today but the phone number is now out of service, and it also appears the website has been taken down. Thus, these thieves have absconded with my money. I'm still working on a solution to get it back, but it's clear that they're going to be happy to have stolen from me if I allow it.

If anyone had a similar experience and knows how I can get a refund short of harsh legal action, please let me know.

Paul,

We are so very sorry that we are unable to honor your tickets to Mystery Dinner Playhouse for July 20th, or offer you a refund.

We closed operations on July 5th and made every effort to contact everyone who made reservations for our shows beyond that date to inform them of our situation. We apologize for not having been successful at communicating that to you.

The simple truth is, after 20 years in business, we were not able to sustain our operations through the tough economy and our overhead exceeded our cash flow.  We had no choice but to shut down.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to meet our remaining financial obligations, including refunding your ticket purchase.  We were a small Mom and Pop and never had deep pockets, but always met our obligations until recently.

I tried to respond to your review on Yelp, but was unable to because our Yelp page is disabled due to our closure.

Our suggestion to everyone is to contact your credit card company, or your bank and contest the charge/payment.  They will usually reimburse you.

Again, our deepest apologies.
