I had used ARS before to clean out my drain when it backed up - tree root problems on an old sewer line.  Fine, it worked - but then backed up again only 4 months later. I had used an independent service person before who did a great job, but he was unavailable so I called ARS.

ARS is very well priced - but turns out they didn't actually clean out my sewer line.  Recently, before I knew of their bad habits, I called them again, and figured something ELSE might be up which they played on well.  They "cleaned" it out again (used too small of a head, a 2 inch cleaner on a 4 inch pipe!), but it continues to back up.

Then, a "supervisor" came out to scope it since it backed up twice, and claimed that I needed a $5351 repair in my sewer line.  What the video showed in reality was that my sewer line hadn't been cleaned out properly - which I confirmed by calling Hydro-Physics which does a thorough, honest job of scoping - an they don't do fixes, so there's no conflict of interest.

So, shame on them!  The "problem" turned out to be false, the line didn't get cleaned well, and so they are coming out again to clean it properly at no charge.  Of course, if I hadn't been confident enough to trust my instincts to get a second opinion, I might have dropped $5351 on a needless repair.

They made it right - after a confusing several days.

ARS plumbing did finally fix the problem after many, many confusing and often rude calls with staff people on the main phone line in Colorado.

I would simply encourage others who work with ARS to be prepared to fight every step of the way to get the job done right.  They'll do it, but it will be challenging, and you may have to use Ripoffreport.com to get forward motion.  It works.

They provided a refund, and very professionally.

Through my report to Ripoffreport.com, an ARS General Manager called me directly and listened to my issues and concern.  The call was extremely polite and thoughtful, and after we talked the General Manager offered to fully refund not one, but BOTH of my previous rooter expenses.  I felt like they listened well, and fully acknowledged that the treatment I received was not in line with their mission or standards.  I agreed to update this report as a fair trade to refunding my money, which I felt appropriate.

My word to the wise or unwise is this: if you KNOW what kind of problem you have in your sewer line, ie. roots, ensure that your sewer clean out professional will deal SPECIFICALLY with your type of problem.  They may not be prepared to handle a full 4 inch sewer line cleanout, as it may conflict with their business practice for a variety of reasons.  That doesn't let them off the hook, but in every case with a service professional, let's face it, we form a temporary partnership, and communication is key.  In my case, I felt I did communicate my clear need, ARS didn't follow through appropriately, but they made it right - which is a very good thing.

ARS responds by cleaning again, but grumpy and rude.

Just had two technicians out to clean it out again (at no charge).  Gone was any kind of friendly customer service, they were short with me, defensive and rude.  Yet, when I said I had it scoped by Hydro Physics, they backed down.  I asked would they scope it again afterward to ensure that it was clean, which they replied "No", and since there are some roots getting in, their work is no not warranteed now.

I asked, "How then would I know that it's clear - you have a camera right there in your truck?" to which they replied, "We're not going to do another camera, you can go turn on your upstairs faucets to ensure that it's clear."  Which, I then went into my house to do, AND THEY DROVE AWAY without consulting with me to see if their repair worked!  Amazingly rude.

Well, now I have to get it scoped AGAIN by Hydro Physics (whom I trust to do the job) to ensure that the roots were removed so I can actually SEE what the real problems are.

ARS = epic fail.
