Art Carr California Performance Transmissions are a RIP RIP RIP OFF !!! Everytime I see Overhaulin...his T.V. Show I feel like puking. I bought a HIGH PERFORMANCE AOD TRANSMISSION from him. Suppose to handle 800 Horse Power in a mustang I was restoring. Well I have a stock 302 gt motor. So I figured the thing would last a life time. It lasted about an hour. The technician called Art and he told him it needed some valve.

So we changed that. we had to buy it from a Ford Dealership then pay to Install it. It worked about another 15 miles. So Art Carr California Performance sent us another Transmission. THE DUMN HEAD SENT US A TRANNY FOR A LINCOLN. it was too long. so we had to have a drive shaft made to fit the thing. We couldnt get that transmission to go in Reverse. It didnt even work from the get go ! What a Joke. so he sent us another Transmission !! That one was for an F-150 and the this time it had all the wrong linkage. we swapped all the linkage out. you guessed it. the tranny didnt work. it wouldnt shift out of first gear!

Then he wanted to send us another one. you think after all this he'd just give up. I mean he said it was my mechanic and blamed it on all kinds of crap. Hell Art Carr if you can't even send the correct tranny after three try's how can I expect you to ever get the internals correct ? What a Freaking Joke. so then he finally said he'd send my money back.

It's been almost 7 months now and no check. What a freaking Joke. You know what's even funnier is that when I called him he asked me who I was gonna get to install it. I told him the speed shop I was working with..he said...oh yeah I know those guys there great, they absolutly know what their doing when it comes to high performace stuff. Then later he said my mechanic didnt know what he was doing! What a joke. PLUS I PAID ALL THE FREAKING LABOR FOR INSTALLING THREE DIFFERENT TRANSMISSIONS! So the whole thing has cost me $5000 and still no transmission that works !!! WTF F U Art Carr and California Performance. F your T.V. Show tooo I'll bet the car's you overhaul don't even get out of the freaking garage. if you work on them!

Art Carr and California Performance transmissions the joke

AUTHOR: Michael Crawford - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013

Yes the language was a little distasteful and I'm sorry if it offends you. You seem to know it all and are perfectly resplendent in your knowledge. I will be happy to remove my posts as soon as Art Carr and his company live up to his end of the bargain. Even in his own post he said he would refund me the money. Why would he say that if he wasn't in the wrong. He told the speed shop that he recommended to palletize the three defective transmissions. Not one, not two, three. That's tres seor. Three completely defective useless transmission installed by the very speed shop Art Carr told me to use. However after investing over $5000 in labor and parts he wanted me to pay the shipping. Then later he said he would have a shipping company pick up the transmissions. He never did. He made no attempt to return any of my calls. Nor has he ever tried to reach me or the speed shop that he recommended. As soon as his check clears like mine did, I'll be happy to say he stands behind his work. However at this point in time he doesn't. Art Carr and California performance has ripped several people off as you can see by the other posts I am not the only one. I will be more than happy to MOVE ON after I get my refund.

Pay attention

AUTHOR: Jason - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013

In your first report, you said it was Art Carr's show.  IT IS NOT.  No I am not Art, just a satisfied customer.  One of thousands over the years.  The show is back on.  Chip Foose brought it back.  Chip Foose created the show.   As stated, he brings in quality.  Maybe you sent in bad information.  MOVE ON.  And the language;  pretty childish.

Research

AUTHOR: Michael C - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013

Yes yes yes I did my research. Art is regularly featured on the show as the transmission expert. Several shows show him bringing in a transmission for cars featured on the show. It's pretty hard to screw up three transmissions that were all the wrong ones. Maybe your the one that needs to do some research. Or maybe you are Art trying to get your name out of the mud. As you can see I'm not the only one that had a terrible problem with California Performance Transmissions.

Are you doing your homework?

AUTHOR: Jason - ()

POSTED: Friday, March 15, 2013

Wow!  You obviously have not done your homework.  Overhaulin' is not Art Carr's show.  THat title belongs to Chip Foose.  AND, if you didn't know, obviously you don't, Chip only deals with very reputable people, product and vendors.  Maybe you didn't do your homework on your supposed high performance mustang.  Did you do the install yourself?  Probably.  You may think you know your stuff when it comes to cars, but you may have stepped out of reality.  Have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe, you blame everyone else for your screw-up?  Think about it.

Converter runout

AUTHOR: GG - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, February 16, 2013

So Art built a converter for my 4l80e. With less then a 1k miles it starts leaking...after pulling a talking to Art he's confident it's not him. But wanted to make sure I knew I was out of warrantee.

unlike him I cannot sell my name to a Texas Co. for a million bucks. Too bad Texas did not know he can't build converter, and they over paid for getting a fools name to put on there company.

Back to the converter, after looking at the snout and seeing a funky seal wear pattern we chucked it in a lathe, .018 runout. A local converter shop verified and was cracking jokes about the infamous Art Carr.

The converters f.bombed the input bushing. So yep the converter cost plus a tranny repair. He needs to retire cause he is selling crap and the folks in CA. Have their head up their lower orifice.

They screwed me too...

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Yep... Back in 1986, my BRAND NEW 1985 Buick Regal T-TYPE (Buick grand national in sheeps clothing) had lost it's transmission... The dealer said that they were having all kinds of issues with the TH200-4R, and suggested I get warranty to approve me getting it done aftermarket...
At the time, Art Carr was advertising all over the magazines about building the Buick GN transmissions, and being the "Best in the business".
I plopped $2400.00 out of my pocket for them to replace it with one of their "unbreakable" transmissions... Worked ok for about a year... Exactly one week to the day after the 1 year warranty expired, their front pump and direct clutch pack let go and destroyed the trans. it only had about 10,000 miles on it.
Other than their transmission, the car was BONE STOCK, down to the tires... and they were still the original tires. When it broke, I was on cruise control heading down the 405 freeway at about 65 MPH... I called and thought, since it was so close to the expiration date, and the car had been babied and not modified, that they may at least help me out a bit even if it wasn't 100%...
Nope... I got told to screw myself, that I was "obviously racing and abusing the vehicle".
When I asked how, if I had been abusing it, why their "Indestructible" trans let go, they said the warranty is at their discretion and if they say I was abusing it (Even without any evidence of abuse) they could void the warranty... GM warranty wouldn't cover getting it repaired since it was an aftermarket trans, so they weren't liable for the quality...
I took the car to Mike Kurtz at PMAC in Houston, TX... $3000.00 later, I had another transmission that was indestructible... 7 years later and 130,000 miles later, that transmission from PMAC was as strong as a horse, and I actually started racing the car and modifying it about 1990...
When I sold it, it had over 150,000 miles on it, and was as solid as the day Mike put it in...
Art Carr is GARBAGE... avoid them like the plague!!!

Art Carr and CPT

AUTHOR: Doug - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, May 21, 2009

I had a great experience with Art Carr and CPT. About 3 years ago I had a transmission done by CPT and everything was completed as promised. My first transmission was rebuilt by Art Carr then of the Art Carr Transmissions of the early 70's. He has been responsible for many transmission rebuilds and services of mine and my family since 1970. My dad after moving out of state after retiring would take his motor home to Art for servicing whenever he made the trip out to see us. When I was in High School we were building a drag car for the Ford High School Scholarship drags and he donated to our school, the transmission, converter and labor for our car.

In ending I know that sometimes things happen in business that aren't intentional and sometimes resolution takes time and understanding.

Art Carr, California Performance Transmission and our attempts to resolve

AUTHOR: Art Carr - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 17, 2009

At the time Michael originally brought the problem to our attention we offered a full refund upon return of the transmissions.
The customer's responded that he would give us the transmission back after he received the refund.

Our feeling and policy is that while we are completely willing to refund the full purchase price of the transmission, we cannot issue the refund until after we receive the all our product back. As the transmission was paid for prior to shipping, our willingness to complete the transaction has been demonstrated in this and with hundreds of other satisfied customers.

He can't even use his own name!

AUTHOR: Rodcha - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 16, 2009

I worked with Art Carr back when he was in the middle of trying to keep his name. How much of a rip off do you have to be to lose the rights to your own name?!

As for me, it wan't the fact that his top employees were drunks, or the fact his technology was outdated, and that they took more pride in making sure the bolts were shiny than checking important tolerances within the insides of the units; the money was too good for that to get to me. It was when my paycheck bounced when I decided that moving on would be in the best interests for both of us.

Nice guy though.
