Here is my story with ASAP Motors. I have a 1987 Honda that was having problems so I take it to my local Honda Dealer to have it checked out.

They tell me compression is very low in 3 cylinders so replacing the engine would be the best bet and GOOD NEWS!! They know a company that offers 30,000 mile Japanise engines for $550.00.

Right away I think this sounds too good to be true. How could someone have a 1987 engine with only 30,000 miles?? I have heard about engines from Japan that cannot pass their strict emmisions test so they are shipped here to America for sale but HOW could they have a 1987, 20 year old engine with only 30,00 miles??

THANKFULLY THE HONDA DEALER HANDELED THE DEAL WITH ASAP MOTORS!!! NOT ME!!!

Anyway, the Dealers states that they know a company called ASAP Motors and they can give me a NEW engine for around $2000.00 total including labor. While this is a little expensive, I give them the OK to begin work. After all, I'll have a NEW ENGINE RIGHT?? WRONG....

On Dec 3rd 2006 they order an engine from ASAP Motors, I'm not sure what they paid for it but I would guess around $550.00+ Shipping. On Dec 7th, this engine arrives but it's the WRONG ENGINE and it's MUCH OLDER than any 30,000 mile engine. The Honda dealer tells me it's a stripped down engine with 100,000+ Miles on it and looks like it came from a JUNK YARD!!

The Honda dealer called ASAP Motors and the run around starts...

ASAP Motors tells them No problem, just ship the old engine back and we'll send you a new one....

A WEEK Goes by before the truck shows up to pick up the engine. ASAP Motors tells the Honda Dealer a New Engine will SHIP OUT the DAY THE OLD ONE IS PICKED UP. WRONG... They LIED. There was NO ENGINE SHIPPED OUT.

Another Week goes by as we expect the new engine to show up... It never does...

I pay a visit to the Honda dealer and sit down in the Parts managers office. While I'm there he calls ASAP Motors They tell him a New Engine is ON IT's WAY but the tracking system is down so they dont have a tracking number for him but the engine DID SHIP OUT. WRONG.... They Lied again...

Another WEEK goes by... NO ENGINE... At this point the parts manager is aware that he's being screwed because ASAP MOTORS CANNOT PROVIDE ANY TRACKING ON THE ENGINE.

He tells me that every time he calls ASAP MOTORS he is placed on HOLD for an hour or more, transfered to 3-4 different people, and given a complete load of bull... They then tell him THE ENGINE SHIPPED OUT ON TUESDAY. So we wait...

NO ENGINE...

He calls back again, they tell him that the original engine they shiped had bad compression and they are looking for another one for him... HOLD ON.. WASENT IT ALREADY SHIPPED OUT??? How can you check the compression on an engine that supposidly is already in transit?? BULL....

At this point over a MONTH has passed and I do not have my car. I tell the Dealership to put the car back together and lets just call it quits.

The Honda Dealer LOST ALL of their money to ASAP MOTORS.

The way ASAP WORKS is as follows: They take your order, tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to pay. They make IMPOSSIBLE CLAIMS of perfect engines that do not exist.

Second, Once you place your order with ASAP Motors, they begin LOOKING for an engine similar to the one you need and where do they get it from??? They buy them from ANY Source they can find. Junk Yards, Wrecked Cars, you name it.

Third, ASAP Motors ships you an engine WITHOUT checking it out, they could care less if it runs or not. When the WRONG engine arrives in Broken Down condition they know you'll complain but they are ready for you.

Forth, They tell you WHATEVER YOU WANT TO HEAR when you call them, they keep you on hold hoping you'll become flustrated and hang up. They Promise to ship you a new engine but NEVER DO... They MIGHT Send you another Junk engine but all you get is more JUNK.

WHY do they do this??? Because there is a LOT of Profit to be made ripping people off... Instead of shipping good engines and making a $100.00 profit off each engine, ASAP MOTORS makes $400-500.00 off each sale by taking the customers money and sending them JUNK. It's very easy to do and it WORKS for them. I'm sure they make a killing doing this to people. I just dont see how they get away with it!! I guess they only rip off people who live FAR AWAY in other states.

Many of the engines they sell are the SAME ENGINE being sold to one customer after another. They KNOW the customer will ship it back, then they just return it to stock and sell it again!!

Whatever You do.. RUN FROM ASAP MOTORS. They will take your money and SWEET TALK you into bankruptacy. When you call, they will tell you WHATEVER YOU WANT TO HEAR.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

John did it right.

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

John did the right thing by contracting the dealer to "furnish and install" the engine. This protects the consumer from the engine supplier. The car owner only has to deal with the local dealer or mechanic rather than some far-away rip-off company. Any problems have to be handled by the dealer. Of course most places are going to choose a more reputable (more expensive) supplier and also mark up the price of the engine. But it is generally worth it because you will have a local contact and a warranty on the whole job.

In this case the dealer did have problems with their chosen supplier. But it sounds like John didn't end up paying the dealer anything because the replacement was never completed.

By the way those "30,000 mile" Japanese engines, even if true, are often no bargain because it's all CITY miles and the Japanese drive their cars HARD. Those engines were replaced for a reason-- they're worn out.

#1 Consumer Comment

Just curious

Why wasn't the dealer included in this report-or just the main subject of it-as a rip off as they could easily called another junkyard or repaired/replaced your engine.

While I agree there are other reports about ASAP, this complaint seems a little misguided.
I think I'd be more pissed about the dealer playing games-regardless of who they are dealing with. This report seems very suspect.
