I have an account with Slender Lady, an all women's 30 minute circuit training club. They apparently use ASF International for billing purposes. My membership was supposed to be for 1 year. In late July, I phoned Slender Lady and told them that I no longer wished to be a member and they said my membership was set to expire on September 1st. I paid all dues (which at the time was $77) and asked again if this would be my last payment. I was assured it was. However, a few weeks later I received a billing notice for September dues to Slender Lady from ASF International.

I phoned ASF and told them about my conversation with Slender Lady, my home club, and they said that didn't matter.......that I would have to write to them to cancel the membership and then it would take 30 days to process. To top it off, I would be responsible for all dues including in the 30 day timeframe. Excuse me??? I called back and asked to speak to a manager because the young man I spoke to was very rude and not helpful. A manager finally came on the line, Jessica, and was even nastier than the first gentleman. Not only did she cut me off several times, but she continued to tell me that there was nothing she could do and that she was going to hang up. NEVER, in my whole life have I experienced such rude, and quite frankly condescending behavior from a company. I was treated like I was in the wrong. Forgive me for getting upset when I never received a notice that my membership was going to be renewed. They can send bills in the mail, but can't afford a slip of paper to say your membership is up for renewal????? What kind of place is this?

In my opinion, go somewhere else. I've also had a membership with Women's Workout World and have NEVER had a problem with them. Their rates are better and they offer more support both in the gym and customer service. Even Bally's, with their higher rates, offered better customer service when I was a member. Trust me, save your money and go elsewhere. BEWARE!!!!!!

I actually just responded to the Better Business Bureau regarding Carmen's complaint. In fact, most of what Carmen says in her complaint is untrue. As with most call centers, all of our calls are recorded. I did take the opportunity to listen to the calls that Carmen speaks of. Carmen wanted immediate satisfaction and would not listen to the rep or the supervisor and, in fact, was extremely nasty to them. Both individuals remained calm and attempted to explain the processes that Carmen needed to complete in order to cancel her account. She did not want to follow the procedures and hung-up on both the rep and the supervisor.

Slender Lady contracts have an automatic renewal clause in them. Carmen needed to notify ASF International if she did not want her membership to renew. We did not hear from her. Slender Lady should have referred Carmen to ASF International whne she talked to them. It is unfortunate she was not given our information. Slender Lady accounts that automatically renew require a 30-day notice and the account has to be current at the time of cancellation. However, it looks as though the club took it upon themselves to cancel Carmen's membership at this time.
