I bought a bed, box spring and mattress in my local Ashley Furniture Homestore because I saw a big sign in their window offering 500.00 in free gas with purchase. I bought the furniture on Sept 13, 2008. I asked about the free gas before and during the purchasing process, and I was told I'd get a voucher for free gas. They didn't have any paper work available on that date, but said they'd call me when the papers for the gas promotion were available. I finalized the purchase, and two days later got a call from the salesperson saying I needed to come sign the paper work for the promotion. I went in on Sept. 15, and it wasn't until then that I saw what 500.00 in "free gas" really meant. It was a gas rebate program where you had to pay to "register" then save 100.00 dollars in gas receipts for each month, send them in, and you'd get a 25.00 gas card for that month. In order for you to get the 500.00 dollars in free gas, you had to do this for 20 months! I was mad this wasn't disclosed before the deal was finalized, it felt like a "bait and switch" but I did everything outlined by the paper work, saved the receipts and sent them in with the coupon they sent me. I did this in Oct. Nov. Dec, and January. I have received nothing except a courtesy 25.00 pre-paid Visa card which I only received after I had made numerous phone calls. I did not get one official gas card for my trouble, though I was owed four by then. I have discovered that the Gas rebate co., which goes by several names, is being investigated by the Florida Attorney General's office. There are thousands of us who made purchases because of this promotion and have gotten nothing. The buck stops with Ashley furniture, they need to make this right with every one of the customers who made purchases during this promotion and did not get what was promised.

Ashley Furniture Homestore's gas rebate

AUTHOR: Jimjar - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, March 22, 2009

After spending a ridiculous amount of time making phone calls and writing reports to the Federal Trade Commission and three state Attorney General's offices, I finally received 400.00 from MDC group in Florida. (The promotion company who recommended the Gas rebate co.(another Florida company) to Ashley Furniture who were clients of theirs.) They did this because of pressure from Ashley Furniture Corporate. I got 100.00 dollars from the local Ashley Furniture Homestore. This made up the 500.00 I didn't get in free gas that was promised because of the failed promotion. I was glad to get this money, but wonder if I may be one of the few who got any recompense because I took the time. The 500.00 didn't begin to pay me for the time and aggravation this cost me. (registering on the gas rebate co.'s website, filling out forms, buying gas from only one pre-determined gas brand, saving receipts, sending them in, then making numerous phone calls over weeks, filling out forms for regulatory commissions and State Attorney General's offices.....etc. etc. etc.) It takes a lot of time.

It does show that the squeeky wheel gets the grease, don't just walk away, stick up for your rights consumers! I'm glad there are websites like Ripoff Report to help.

Ashley home furniture and MDC group were also victims of the Gas Rebate Co. because it went under.......but I had real concerns about the way the promotion was handled by Ashley, they did not divulge the details up front in my case. (I believe there were others like me from reports I've read) Then it took them months to make this right.
