The Memorial Day sale is a giant scam. Two weeks ago I was in the store and prices were very reasonable and I took pictures of the items I was interested in. At that time items were available for 60 months financing with no interest.

Today I went in for the Memorial day sale and the few items I was interested in were marked up about 50% more to make the customer negotiate the price of the furniture down. Before I even looked at anything I asked the sales rep a slew of questions and one of them being the financing options and at the time he stated that we are aloud to finance anywhere from 6-60 months with no interest.

After spending almost 3 hours of looking through the store and negotiating pricing I was satisfied with the prices even though the combination of items still cost a couple of hundred dollars more than what they were two weeks ago. When it came down to filling out the paper work I was told that the furniture could only be financed for 6 months and that the other options dont apply since the sales reps brought down the prices so much from the original asking price.

Again, let me remind you the prices shown were marked up more than any store I have ever seen in my life. So I said that I was looking to finance it for 30 months and that wasn't an option. They would go as far as 12 months and that was it. So I said I was leaving and I'd come back in two weeks when the prices were normal again and the 0% financing was available again. They said they were sorry and that 12 months was the best they could do.

After leaving $5000 in items behind I received a phone call about 5 minutes later that they could do 24 months at 0% interest. Now it was too late. If you were able to give me that from the beginning you should have done it then and not call me as soon as I got back on the highway. Now I will take my business somewhere else. I don't like the used car salesman atmosphere and at Ashley Furniture you will get that treatment on a holiday weekend.

Ashley furniture store verbally said they offered 60 month financing with 0% interest. After I Spent three hours negotiating the prices with them and we went to finance the furniture they suddenly could only do 6-12 months. If you ask me that's a scam. I don't need to research anything for that is what happened. Off you want to buy furniture don't do it on a holiday weekend. After I left without buying anything they called me three days in a row. By then they can go scratch.

60 months is a regular Ashley financing term

To whomever commented previously about furniture stores not having finance terms of 60 months because it is, and I quote, "5 YEARS!!!". Yes. It is 5 years and that is a great deal for a consumer who needs to furnish an entire home (first time home buyer).

These companies don't generally make money from lending, they make money from their furniture sales. Do a little research and you will find out that furniture is one of the most marked up consumer goods in existence. A couch that would take $150 in materials and $400 in assembly time sells for $2000+ (even with transportation and distribution costs, you're still looking at a big big profit).

The reason they offer these seemingly crazy 0% deals is because they want as many people as possible to be ABLE to buy these ridiculously marked up pieces of furniture (particularly if you need to furnish a lot of rooms).

But if that wasn't enough profit, they also count on a certain percentage of people not paying off the debt on time (which is usually the last day of month 60 SHARP). Because if you don't have the check cleared and registered as payment by that day, they charge you all the interest for all the months since the beginning and the rate is quite high (like 28%).

I would research more next time before adding such a misguided comment.

Response to Stacey

Stacey,

As soon as I walked into the store I asked the gentlemen who approached me many questions. One of the questions was wether or not 0% financing was still available. His response was this financing was available for anywhere from 6-60 months. If you want a piece of paper I can not help you, but if you want the truth about what took place yesterday then everything I stated is true.

Later in the evening I received another call where the seller was trying to give me the 60 month financing option with the prices from two weeks ago only the prices he was quoting me were higher than the prices that the furniture was listed for by about $200-$300 each.

Like I said before, it is like dealing with used car salesmen. They pull the old bait and switch on you.

Do you know what 60 months no interest is?? That is 5 YEARS!!! I guarantee there is no furniture store, auto dealership, etc etc that would offer that at any time! I suggest your read the ad again and if states that please post that ad here.

I would love to see that
