Aspire Visa Notice of Termination of Card Program Columbus Atlanta Georgia
*Author of original report: Aspire
*Consumer Comment: It's probably the economy
My one-page notice from Aspire is dated 11-7-08. At the top: PO Box 105341, Atlanta GA 30348-5341. I'm told they have closed my account to new transactions and may refuse to authorize any new transactions effective
Nov 24, 2008.
That barely gives me two weeks notice. That doesn't seem right. I'm told to call 1-800-820-3054 if I have any questions.
Why not give us an explanation in the notice? Why make us call? I feel better now that I see other people have received the same notice.
Is this a casualty of the bad economy?

I just got an email from Aspire:
"From time to time credit card portfolios are discontinued. Unfortunately, that's the case with the Salute Visa program which has been discontinued.
We will report your account as closed to the credit bureaus. We cannot predict how the closure of your account will impact your credit bureau report but do not consider this status a negative report. However, as long as you continue to make your minimum payment each month by the due date, your account will be reported as current."
I'm sending a check today to pay off my balance which is about $50. This was my only credit card. I don't use debit cards. I'm also taking this as a sign from the Supreme Being NOT to get another credit card.
Ever!
Think of the money you'll save.

I freaked out when I checked my account online and saw my available credit drop from 1500 to 150. I called and asked a few questions and the woman I spoke with told me that Aspire is ending their credit card program.
I asked if Aspire accounts would be transferred to another bank/credit card company (which has happened to me before), but I was told they would not.
They don't really need to give you an explanation (the letter should be sufficient), but it probably is the economy. I didn't even have the letter to go by at first, it took a phone call and a few minutes of google searching before I found my way here.
