association of landlords, 377 Harrison condominium/ cooperative east orange nj Application fee, and unexplained discrimination. east orange , New Jersey

sometime in  june   2012 i was looking for an apartment and contacted a weichert agent by name Jeffrey Karn . he then showed me an apartment in 377 south harrison. i went on with him to see the land lady of the apartment and she had no issues with me taking the two bedroom apartment.

i was told i had to apply to the association for approval even though the land lady ( carla Bean ) had seen me and we went on to enter into agreement and i had written out the necessary cheques which were later cancelled.

i submitted my application to the association with a non refundable fee of $15. it took the association almost a whole month to even pick up the phone and with cheques written for the rent i was stranded and continued to wait not being able to look further. this was so because they association required you to submit a tenancy agreement with the landlord before your application will be considered.

i received a voicemail from the assocition slating me for a meeting same day when i called back to confirm the meeting time i was told that my application was denied, this was four days to when the tenancy would have commenced, i asked why and was told bluntly that i would receive a mail stating the reasons. i called the land lady who went to the association but was told their reasons were confidential and refused to tell her. i was put in hardship searching for another accomodation after having waited for a month. the land lady had to return my money.

to this day almost two months later i never got a call nor did i ever receive any correspondence stating why they denied my application. 

i am filing this report because i work hard for my money and i consider $150.00 to be a lot of money, they treated me shabbily , never gave me fair hearing before denying me and lastly i was never given the reason why.
