Folks:

You won't believe what we have uncovered. It's the first in the United states that we have heard about. A structural engineer applied for a bridge design at the 11th largest firm called Atkins Global. This person was very qualified and got turned down because the person was told they were too smart.

We guess Valarie Jones misrepresnts her company when it says: As a company we are as committed to diversity as we are to excellence.

This person is Valarie Jones, the nationwide US recruiter for Atkins, based in Tampa, FL. We believe she does some pretty stupid things. For example, she's proven to the people out there she's got the intelligence of a 5 year old. When one of her job postings states that the person have 5+ years of experience, she interviewed and rejected a candidate because they had 13 years of experience. We believe Atkins employee Valarie Jones stated that another employee was responsible for disqualifying this person is because she did not want to admit she did the unlawful disqualification. We guess she doesn't want Atkins to hire prospective employees who want to save their clients $100 million plus. At Atkins, we believe it's not about being well qualified that gets you a job with their firm, we believe it's about being dumber than a box of hammers. All we see is the fact they want their salary expense as low as possible.

Valarie Jones has proven to the public she is terrified of intelligent engineers who work for or would like to work for Atkins.  Instead of decreased liability expenses for doing an engineering doing their job right, Valarie Jones settles for having her ego stroked. We still cannot believe she's a 1985 Florida State University Fashion Merchandising and Design major who's a recruiter for a big engineering firm.

If Atkins employees cannot figure out the concept of single digit numbers, how can they design buildings, bridges, and roads? We would hate to see how Valarie treats other qualified people at Atkins. For right now, she will have to deal with being the butt of all the jokes about HR people in the entire United States. Many newscasters have seen her email to this candidate and cannot put it down.

We can thank Valarie Jones for many things like creating a new class of homeless intelligence people with ruined credit ratings and defaulted student loans. Heck, Valarie Jones admitted just because she wants to schedule an interview at her request in an email doesn't necessarily mean a candidate will have it. She even tells job candidates to look elsewhere. Is this a way for Atkins to recruit people? Valarie put the 'sucks' in success! At Atkins, they didn't invent discrimination against the long-term unemployed, they just
perpetrate it.

If Valarie Jones wants to make face, she would do everything in her power to get this person hire.
Valarie Jones must try to demonstrate the excellence in Atkins like they claim.

Right now, this person is going on the radio advertising Atkins and the email Valarie Jones sent. While
Valarie is at it, she might want to check out the employee reviews at Glassdoor. Here's some of the comments we read:

They bring people in from the U.K. to work, but as a North American employee you're warned by lower
level managers that you could be fired for even talking about transferring to Australia or someplace else for new opportunities.

Don't even think of recording your real time on timesheets - my immediate manager worked every
weekend & many evenings the whole time I was there - the entire team had to work Easter Sunday - for FREE!

Half the staff has considered leaving for non-professional careers like fast food management, trade school, package delivery, and the like (no knock against those careers but it's not why you go to college and get a degree or advanced degree). You also don't get 'sick days' if you're sick or have an emergency count on using you're accrued vacation time.

Here's a commercial we made for Valarie Jones of Atkins. What do you think about it, folks?

When recruiting needs can change in a matter of moments, count on the sophisticated stupidity of Atkins recruiter Valarie Jones.

With excessive excuses that can alter reality from 3000 miles away and Blame-stormer 3000 with storm
tracking stupidity that pinpoints when idiocy will strike.

Day or night, rain or shine. Dumb Recruiter 11 has you covered.

Valarie Jones of Atkins Global is recruiting stupidity you can count on.

shocking...over-qualified is considered over-qualified!

AUTHOR: FinD - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, August 11, 2016

When an ad is placed seeking an engineer with 5+ years of experience, the ideal candidate being sought will have around 5-8 years of experience.  Someone with 13 years of experience should be looking for jobs requiring 12-15 years of experience.  I commonly see engineering industry-standard ranges, like 0-3, 3-5, 5-8 (or 5-10), 8-12 (or 10+), etc.

Someone with 13 yrs of experience applying for an engineering position requiring 5+ years reeks of desperation and overqualification.  Even if the applicant were willing to take a lower-level of responsibility and salary, there's the concern that the applicant could quickly leave for a position more suited to 13 yrs of experience.  Turnover is not a good thing.  And it can be an awkward situation.  The applicant may have more experience than the person he is assigned to work under.

Obviously they considered hiring someone over-qualified but didn't think it was going to work long-term, or chose to interview the applicant to see if it was worth creating a new position for someone in the 12-15 year range.

Either that, or they just didn't like the applicant and thought it was a convenient excuse that wouldn't hurt the applicant's feelings.  Based on the reaction, it sounds like they made a good decision in not hiring a 35 year-old engineer with the maturity level of a 12 year-old.

And engineer with 5+ years of experience has either just received his PE license recently or has had it just a few years.  Someone with 13 years of experience should have a mountain of project management experience, supervisory roles, etc.  It's a mismatch which anyone with 13 years of experience should recognize upfront.
