The salesman for this moving company presented a standard moving contract.  All legitimate interstate movers offer contracts in which they may charge up to 115% of the estimated price, to be determined by the final move weight.  Not wanting to be subject to fees on the back end, I specifically requested the salesman to provide a price that would be final.

The salesman there had quite a rap.  "I have been estimating for over 30 years and there is no way your weight will go over my estimate, unless you add unaccounted for items."  This sounded just like what I was looking for.  "I'm telling you, you will either break even or possibly get a refund when the final weight is counted." was the salesman's words to me exactly.

I should have NEVER BELIEVED HIM!  Of course, the weight was almost 20% higher than his estimate and I was charged the full 110% with an additional charge pending that he added after I told him I was disputing the charge!!!  No additional items were ever added to the move.

I have contacted the president of the company and got a call from someone in his office offering to reduce the bill by the additional charge amount added after I disputed.  I explained that they are not entitled to this charge to begin with, so they are, in effect, offering me nothing!

I even offered to split the difference between the contracted rate and the rate initially charged before disputing, just so I could put this behind me.  They flat out turned me down.   I explained that I am a disabled man, out of work, with plenty of time to contact any and all consumer help advocates.  Again, they simply didn't care and will not offer any settlement.  I now leave it up to my credit card company to dispute.  I would hate to see anyone go through the totally annoying process I am in right now, so my advice is to stay away from this company.

Bottom line: DO NOT ACCEPT ANY SALESMAN'S WORD THAT YOUR WEIGHT WILL  BE WHAT HE ESTIMATED!!  EXPECT TO PAY THE FULL 115%.
