I heard about this great new VOIP CallVantage service from AT&T, so I decided to give it a try. I called the number listed on the Website, and the gentlemen said, "Oh... I'm sorry, we don't have any local numbers in your area... but what we can do is set you up with regular (non-VOIP) residential service, and then we can 'port' that number to be a CallVantage number". Cool. I said do it.

So... a couple of weeks later, I still haven't gotten my Telephone Adapter for the VOIP service, and I called AT&T to get some info. Turns out the first sales guy lied to me, and they can't port my number to a CallVantage number. I was furious! That guy lied to me just to get some commission out of the call, and the tech I spoke to confirmed that it was probably just a "commission-based" lie! I was surprised he admitted it. So, I filed a formal complaint and was promised they would call me back. That's was over three months ago, and still no one has called me back.

I kept the service for a month or two, because I needed a phone service, and began exploring Lingo & Vonage. When I connected with Lingo, I called AT&T and asked them to cancel my service. The young man I talked to was very nice. He gave me a confirmation number and sent me on my way. The next day, my phone number is disconnected... no one can call it. All good so far. Well...

The next time I get a bill from AT&T it's still continuing to grow. I thought it was just some arrear long distance calls that I had made, so I paid it and was done with it. But two months have passed and I kept getting a bill for about $17 more each month. When I called to investigate, it turns out that they had disconnected my residential service, but not my long distance service. Ok, their mistake... they will credit me, right? WRONG! They refuse to credit my account for the thirty something dollars that I have been charged over that 10 week period for which I had NO PHONE SERVICE.

Apparently, I was supposed to call and cancel the Long Distance service as well, at another number. What a job, huh? I can order both thru one scamming guy, but I have to cancel them thru two different ones. And I was never told! How can they bill me for LD, when I didn't even have a dial tone!?

So, I got ripped off, and no one will credit my account.
