I called ATT dsl tech support last night for help with my ATT wireless router which only has a range of 15 feet and and is very slow. I called the tech support number given to me by ATT when my wireless router was installed. The dsl people no longer answered. Att's new "tech connect service" did.

I told the youg man of my problem and that I was 70 years old and mostly blind up close. I have only one eye and heart failure. He advised that free help was no longer provided by ATT for their dsl products. He said they could fix my problem easily and throw in a PC checkup and 24 hour tech support for only $15 per month guaranteed. He advised that this was the only way to get help. I finally said ok. I told him I was blind so I had to talk to a human being. He said fine.

he then said he had to go as he had hundreds of calls backed up but signed me on to the tech connect web site where a lady began a chat. She said she could fix my router problem but first she had to give me a PC check up for which I had to let her take over my PC. I finally sId ok and she promise to call me if the chat was lost. She advise that she has to restart my PC but that I would not loos her. She shut down my laptop containing hundreds of pictures of my grand children and of medical records, music and audio books.

I waited for my laptop to come back on. It did not. I waited for the lady to call me back as promised. She did not. I could not get my lap top running so I called tech connect back.

After almost an hour waiting on the q I finally talked to a nice young man who said that my hard drive had been wiped out and that I would not be able to retrieve any of my pictures or audio books or medical records. He did help me reinstall my hard drive so at least I can get my email magnified.

This morning I called tech connect to complain and make sure I eas not going to be charged. I ultimately was referred to the boss who could help me. His name was Eric but he refused to give me his last name. Bottom line: " you signed up for a subscription service and you agreed to pay $15 per month even if we wiped out your hard." I was astounded! I pay ATT about $230 per month for dsl, iPhone, air card, and phone service. In no uncertain terms he advised that if I did not pay I would have to pay a large penalty or my phone service which enables my life line and security system would be turned off after forty plus years. Talk about a "rip off" of a old man!
