AT&T has changed the information they are reporting to the credit bureaus on an account that has been closed and paid off since 1997. They changed the status from R-1 to R-9--the best rating to the worst. They changed the date of payoff from 10/97 to 10/99. We made a settlement on the account and they always reported that it was settled for less than the full amount, but to change the rating after nine years!!!!!!
This has caused my other credit card companies to raise my interest rate on every other card I have. I have also been denied a home equity loan because my scores have dropped over 100 points.
AT&T will not speak with me or respond to mail. First American Credco says that what they have done is illegal and to get a lawyer, but I don't have enough money to hire one. My good credit rating was really all I had going for me. Now they have destroyed it and won't fix it or even talk to me.

ATT & T Changed Information on Closed Account
AUTHOR: Dorcas - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 18, 2006
The good news is you are protected by The Fair Credit laws of our United States. Since the last date of activity on the account was 10/1999 then the entire record of the credit card will automatically be removed seven (7) years later - it must by law be removed on 10/2006 time is up for ATT & T Universal credit card. At that time your good credit rating will be restore to like new and all information regarding the account will disappear. If it doesn't dispute the account and ask all three credit bureas to remove the negative information because it is seven (7) years old and due to be removed.
Once it disappears you can call all your current credit cards companys and ask they lower the interest rates, with this item removed and you have been paying on time, they should with no problem.
Good Luck
