On Feb this year 2004 WE decided to try AT&T wireless Worst mistake on choosing our new wireless company. We signed for a plan that called for two phones, no long distance, no roaming charges for $39.95/mo. The phones did not receive a signal in many rural areas. Were told by an AT&T rep that we should opt for the digital phone system. They told me that the price would remain the same by several reps. When our bill arrived, much to my surprise, it was not the same price as quoted originally and even included roaming charges and long distance charges that should not have been applicable to the plan that I subcribed to initially.

When I called to question this, I was told that I was switched to a "local plan." Unbeknownst to me, I was switched to a plan that I neither requested nor gave permission to be switched to. I have referred many people to AT&T in the past, as I was once an AT&T employee myself, but I will definitely think twice about future referrals.

I sent three registered mail letters to AT&T Customer Service to which I was never afforded a response. I was finally allowed to cancel my plan with no cancellation fees after more than twenty calls to customer service; but my fees a charges, i.e. roaming and long distance fees were not disregarded. I also had to pay for two phones that I only used for 33 days because their stupid policy stated no returns after 30 days.

AT&T Wireless - definitely a rip off

AUTHOR: Sheila - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 06, 2004

I ordered AT&T wireless and was also told I had a 30 money back guarantee. Upon receiving my phones, I could not activate them because they kept indicating I was roaming. I talked to several tech support people and finally was told that if I would go to a city where it indicated "home" they would activate. After that, I could use them in my own city because the had reciprocal agreements with towers there.

The city they wanted me to go to was about 3 hours away. I told them, absolutely not. If I could not activate the phones within my own area I wanted to cancel the service. I was transferred around to various people finally to be told they would send me a return label and authorization #. A week passed without receiving this. Again, they stated it is in the mail. Another week went by and still no authorization.

I finally packed up the phones and all documentation and sent it, along with a letter explaining why I wanted to cancel. I sent them via UPS and received confirmation that they had been delivered.

Numerous phone calls later, I was told they never received the phone and now it was past the 30 days.

Fortunately, my credit card company intervened for me and AT&T refunded half the amount and the bank credited the rest.

They make it almost impossible to return anything within their 30 day guarantee period.
