I added a Ipad to my AT&T account in February and unfortunately it only lasted several months before it was destroyed. It took several months before I was able to acquire a new Ipad.In placing the new device on my account and removing the destroyed pad I was charged $118.00 early termination fee.Having been a customer for more then 5 years this is how they reward loyalty. They will not wave the fee!!!!!

No One Gets a "Good Deal" With AT&T. They are CROOKS.

AUTHOR: BillS. - ()

POSTED: Monday, November 11, 2013

I use to work at AT&T in Tier II Uverse out of Richardson, TX. AT&T had very unethical business practices. It would literally take me all day to tell you about them. For starters, We had to LIE to customers daily. The Uverse sales agents would go out to homes, literally door to door, and convince people to buy the Uverse service when they KNEW the people were too far way from the main box to even get the service. So long as they met their sales quotas they did not care. They would leave these people with constant service problems to fight day and night with billing.

When these people would call in and complain DAILY about their Cable, or Internet or Phone being out we were instructed by management to LIE and we could not tell these people that the technicians had notes in the system stating that the people were simply too far away to have workable service. We were told to send technican after technician and router after router. We would continue to take the poor sap's money until they had simply had enough. This was highly UNETHICAL to me.

We also had to meet "sales quotas" in addition to troubleshooting the person's devices which we had to hit every single month or our jobs were in jepeaordy. One of them was Connect Tech. Some people would call in and they were either very elderly or new to computers and they would think their internet was not working when the computer was off or not plugged in. Very simple stuff. Managers would listen to our calls and we were forbidden from simply telling the person how to turn on the computer. We had to push this super expensive connect tech package on them that they didn't need.

AT&T incentivized us by giving us $6.00 off of each connect tech package we added to the customers line. So many agents had TRICKS on how to ask the question in a certain way to not let the person know it was being added when it was. These people would then be left to fight with billing to remove it.

AT&T was also one of the CHEAPEST companies I had ever worked for. They have pretty much stopped hiring permanent for all positions except for their retail stores and now outsource everything, all of their operations to TEMPORARY STAFFING COMPANIES that have long term three and four and five year contracts. We had to work all holidays with no holiday pay. We had no sick time or health benefits. And this just wasn't the Richardson, TX office which I worked out of. It was pretty much ALL of their offices.

AT&T even started bringing IT people from India on visas and paying them $40,000 per year when they would have had to pay the American counterparts $90,000 per year. They just didn't want to pay anything. And this was at a time when on the news they were being recognized for making HISTORIC PROFIT.

AT&T also worked the devil out of us. We had three minutes to have one restroom break out of a 14 hour shift. THREE MINUTES. And we had to RUN. Run to the restroom. Before I took the job a guy who use to work there warned me about this but I didn't believe them. You had to Log off the phone for a restroom break and the clock started on you the minute you logged out.  You would have to go the length of a football field in THREE MINUTES to the restroom, use the restroom, wipe off, wash your hands and come back. People were literally SOILING THEMSELVES to keep their job.

And AT&T used a lot of threats and intimidation. Just like this other guy who just responded to your post telling you that you don't have a leg to stand on. YOU DO HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON. I hate these guys for always lying and trying to convince everyone they don't have a case to fight. Why are they trying to hard to convince you there is no recourse under the law? What's it to them? They just want people to remain vulnerable and powerless so that they can be EXPLOITED.

One thing I've learned from living in Texas and listening to these white guys bluster and intimidate and throw their weight around here is this.. They want us all to be STUPID of the fact that the LAW provides RECOURSE. The more stupid people are the more they BENEFIT FROM YOUR IGNORANCE.

This guys isn't a lawyer. Most likely the guy responding to this post is a PAID SHILL for AT&T. AT&T has entire wings of its Richardson, TX building dedicated to monitoring websites and blog posts and online complaint forums. They have HUNDREDS of workers where that's ALL THEY DO.

They try to figure out someone's identity and contact them to either solve the issue or intimidate them into removing a post. They also pretend to be cheerleaders of the company. AT&T is HIGHLY PARANOID.

Good luck. When you deal with AT&T you deal with the DEVIL HIMSELF.

I understand the circumstance, but you also need to put yourself into their shoes. How do they distinguish between real and fake stories? If someone wants to simply switch a device and reports them that the current device is broken, how do they know that the device is really broken. Telling them or looking at usage history does NOT give a proof because they both can easily be faked. For a simple solution, they simplify this case to not allow. Yes, it is going to only benefit them, you have agreed to their ToS. If you want to fight their case, be my guest because I do not see how you could win it...
