I was first contacted by phone from this company that they could help me refinance my mortgage and get a lower rate. At first I was not curious about how or why they contacted me because I put in some inquiries on the internet and assumed this was just one of those companys following up. They asked me to fax them all sorts of income verification, bank statements and a mortgage statement. This seemed like a normal process so I faxed what they asked for. They called me back later that day and said they could most likely help us but wanted to speak to me and my spouse at the same time since she was on the mortgage. I was a little surprised at this point because I had tried to refinance through my mortgage holder (a major bank) and told I did not qualify under the Harp program (not a Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac) and did not qualify through FHA. So my bank wont help me but this company will, great. When they called back and spoke to me and my spouse, they said we did qualify, they would lower our payments from $1377 to $715, wow. They wanted us to sign to documents right away online and my spouse said she is not signing anything without takning the time to read the papers and do some research. She asked them the name of the company and was told the Housing Retention Group. As I am speaking to them on the phone my spouse researches them on the internet and can't find them. That was the red flag that put the stop sign up as as far as my spouse was concerned. We kept going back and forth on the phone about how the window is only open for a short time for this great deal to go through and I ask them for more info on their legitimacy. They send me another e mail about the Attorney Alliance Union. I told them I would not sign off on the deal until I did nore research. Glad I did. That led me to this forum and I am now convinced I saved some money, hardship and possibly my home by not signing on with this facticious group of cheats.
