I retained Attorney Griffith in August, 2004 to handle my divorce. I gave him a retainer of $6000. He apparently used it all up and never gave me an accounting. My husband was a wealthy man, and I was flat broke and suffering from a brain tumor. My husband's lawyer deposed me; my lawyer would not depose my husband or invetigate how he was disposing of his income. My husband drained our accounts. We had a trial; the judge ordered that he pay me $200 a week and $119,000 as a lump sum. He never paid me either the weekly amount or the lump sum. At least three or four times, we have gone to court to get the arrearages owed; each time, my ex has given a check payable to M. Griffith for several thousand dollars and my attorney has adamantly refused to turn over the monies to me, claiming that they are needed for his fees. He has also made "deals" with my ex, to which I have not been a party. Right now, he is holding a check for $3000 in his office for the past three months. No matter how I beg, he refuses to turn over the moneys to me.
He is also the lawyer in charge of getting my back child support paid. He has received checks from my son's father, and again, I have never seen a cent. He refuses to return calls.

An Open Apology to Attorney Mark Griffith,
I am writing to retract statements I previously made on the Rip Off Report about my attorney, Mark Griffith.
As I stated in my previous account, I am suffering from a brain tumor. My health condition, medication and added stress of an ongoing divorce process caused a momentary lapse in judgment when I wrote the e-mail. I posted an account of my attorney that was untrue and unfair.
Attorney Griffith did NOT withhold money from me as I accused, but in fact, I owe him money for all the work he has done on my behalf. Despite the amount owed him, and my lack of ability to pay him, he continues to represent my interests skillfully and with integrity.
My attorney argued for a large settlement and alimony in my divorce case, and it was awarded to me. The reason I haven't been paid, is because of the exhaustive appeals my ex-husband has pursued and which are still pending. Obviously, this is not the fault of my attorney.
Most inexcusable, was my accusation of wrongdoing by Attorney Mark Griffith. There is not, and never has been, any collusion between him and my ex-husband during my divorce. My attorney has always acted in my best interests, and has always offered me proper and sound counsel.
I believe I acted in a moment of frustration, blaming my attorney for the situation I am currently in.
I hope Mark knows I meant no harm to him, his reputation or his law firm. I apologize to Mark and his family for my hurtful words.
