I purchased my 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited on March 18, 2005. I had it for about 36 hours before the 1st transmission failure, it was returned on Sunday March 20, 2005. I was told the transmission had been replaced when I arrived to pick it up on Friday March 25, 2005. I found out later it hadn't. My car has had the same problem off and on since then. I have returned it numerous times with no satisfactory results and only to have it malfunction again.

I was driving one day, the speed limit was 70 and I was only doing about 65 in the middle lane of the highway, when my car kicked, I flew forward with my seatbelt on and smacked the front windshield with my head. I was told by a repairman that my transmission, even though it's an automatic, down-shifted from 5th gear into 1st at 65 miles per hour. This has since happened about 5 times, with no other repair but the cheapest of course, which is to replace the TCM (transmission control module), this is about $150. I have taken it to CarMax every time and they have assured me it was fixed but in actuality it had never been repaired correctly.

I have a toddler and I know that had he been in the car when it kicked, he would no longer be with us. CarMax takes pride in their 125 point inspection. If that's the case then why did my car malfunction only hours after I drove it off the lot? And why are they asking me for a 60/40 split on fixing what they never fixed in the 1st place? Which of course is about $3000 for a new transmission. Not to mention I am still paying on this car that remains broken down. I have had it for 2 years, and it's been in numerous shops for 3 months out of the 2 years I've had it.
