I've witnessed the worst handling of an insurance claim in my life.  There was a home that was beautiful and it was vandalized.  Auto-Owners claim adjusters were not readily available and made communication hard.  The first adjuster just walkerd through the property and wanted a contractor to submit estimates.  The estimates were submitted and Auto-Owners didn't accept the claim and just offered what appeared to be just a settlement for 1/3 of the claim.

For months no changes were made while the once beautiful home was forced to sit empty because they would not pay the claim anywhere near what it cost to fix the home.  All they did was come up with lies as far as why the insurance shouldn't be paid in full.

This company is a fraud.  If you are considering this company, don't.  Even if you have to pay a little more premium to get an insurer who will pay the damages that should be covered, not avoid you, insult you, delay paying and telling you to take them to court if you want.

Don't sell yourself short, these crooks will leave your home a vacant mess to avoid paying a claim to restore you home to the way it was.

How could I forget! Contact state agency first!

Call your local/state agency overseeing the insurers and complain. Have the estimates, at least 2 dependable ones, and they will probably kick the insurer in the butt over it.

Most insurers do the same thing - Go to court!

Most insurers, the biggest names being the worst, do the same thing. Deny deny deny. Get several estimates from legit contractors, consult with a lawyer. Maybe in such cases, your legal and court fees can get tacked on to an eventual judgement. The lawyer ought to know. And go after the SOBs. Chances are before it ever gets to court, they'll cave.
