In my experience, most autoship programs are ripoffs and I have canceled any that I was on. (More info later on how to deal with companies that wont honor your request to cancel).   Most companies online entice people with free shipping or discounted product if only you sign up for autoship.  They say "You can cancel antime!".   Most of these companies will not let you cancel by email.  You have to call their number for cancellation and even finding the correct number to call can be a chore.  Then, after being on hold waiting to talk to a real person, that person tries to convince you not to drop autoship by offering more discounts.  Most products on the market do not live up to the advertised hype.  I tell companies that try to get me to sign up for autoship, that if your prouct lives up to the hype, I will be a repeat customer and if I am a repeat customer, I want the same discounts and free shipping that you would get with autoship.  That gives the control over your pocket book back to you, instead of a robotic shipping dept.  We the consumer should be the ones that determine when and how often we purchase any given product. If the company fails to honor my request, I refuse to do business with them. Again, most products do not live up to the hype.  If you feel you absolutely need that company's product, go ahead and buy it but DO NOT sign up for autoship.

Now for those who have trouble canceling autoship, and the company keeps charging you for product you do not want, You are not without some powerful advocates.    Write a letter to the company stating your wishes and the date you canceled autoship, the name of whoever you talked to on the phone about your wishes, and make sure the company knows you are sending copies of this letter to your credit card company, telling your card issuer any charges past the date mentioned in your letter for that particular company are invalid and not to honor them.  Also let the company know you are sending another copy of the letter to your state's,attorney general for consumer affairs.  No company wants the government looking over their shoulder. That should solve your problem with any concerns you have about autoship.
