Auto Zone is selling faulty fuel pumps and from what I have been told by the employees, they are well aware of it and don't really care. I was stranded on a St. Louis interstate twice in one week after replacing 2 fuel pumps.

I incurred $175.00 worth of towing charges and a lot of aggravation.

A GM mechanic also alerted me to the fact that Auto Zone sold the fuel pump at a price much higher than the factory GM fuel pump.

Auto Zone is a rip off!!!!!!

Hello,

AutoZone does not sell faulty fuel pumps. This report actually made me laugh, because Airtex/Master is actually a VERY good brand.

The fuel pumps come with a 1 year warranty ONLY if you change the fuel pump strainer at the same time, due to most fuel pumps failing due to reusing the old strainer. People think they are saving alot by not buying the 20 dollar strainer, but did you REALLY save money?

I'm sorry if you believed that the GM dealer actually had that part for a cheaper price. I doubt if even NAPA charges more than the dealer.

I no longer work for AutoZone - but they used to have a good return/refund policy. I only caution you that when a GM mechanic, Ford mechanic, Nissan mechanic - whatever the case may be - tells you something negative about an auto parts store, please listen with caution.

California has been trying to pass a law that would ban all auto part stores and only allow car manufacturing dealers to make the repairs. I don't know that this bill goes as far as saying you can't change your own lights or wind shield wipers - but it would affect a lot of local owned mechanic shops who often buy their parts from places like AutoZone and Pep Boys. If you think car repair is costly now...wait until a monopoly controls it.

I do know that I worked at a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership many years ago - and I was shocked and appalled at the level of deception that went on. Any logical person knows this isn't true at every dealership - but I've been told by more than one mechanic and employees of auto dealers that it's more common than you think. I removed myself from that company after four months due to my discomfort with the lies that were being told to the customers.

Try to find a good mechanic via word of mouth and become friends with them. Perform regular car maintenance. My 11 year old Ford truck that I recently gave to my dad when I bought a new used vehicle has over 200,000 miles on it and has never had any major engine repair. Got that oil changed every 4,000 miles, along with tune-ups and check-ups. It can save you a lot in the mean time. Good luck with your cars, dealers and repairs no matter who you buy from!

AutoZone Best Warranty Response in the Parts Biz

Did you change the fuel filter and strainer? AutoZone has one of the easyest systems to warranty parts, a SatLinked Data base in Tenn that every store nationwide can access within minutes normally. This way if you don't have a recipht, they can look you up by phone number and take care of your problem without it. I've bought stuff in Florida and warrantied it here in California.

Most other campanys, you have to have a recipht or remember what store you bought at years ago, so they can CALL them and check your information there. Alot of companies didn't even have a store database till recently (Pepboys for example).

If their stuff was junk, seems they would get stuck alot more then their competors.

I'll stick with them, myself.

Get a life and a phone book, Call around for prices. And if you take your auto to GM then why are you shopping at autozone, go to the dealers parts counter.
