I went to buy a used car from AutoShow in Plantation after having received an approval for a car loan through "roadloans.com". I was greeted by Barry Rochleau, a salesman at the dealership and sat down with him to explain my unique financing.

He had almost brushed roadloans off as if it meant nothing giving me some reason that I wouldn't have qualified for it that made no sense to me. He explained they were going to run my credit there and see if I could qualify for more. My roadloans loan was enough for multiple cars on the lot and I was prepared to use that. the Down payment was $250 for 11K worth of car.

He had originally told me that he was approving me for a 2011 Kia Forte but it would be a $50 processing fee. I Gave him the $50 not knowing that this was actually to pay off the financing guy to "fudge" my paper work!!

He told me to come back the next day so they could have the car detailed. This was my first time buying a car, so I was just following along. I got home (a two hour drive) and he tells me that the Forte didn't pass inspection, and that I'd be moving into a 2011 Hyundai Accent GLS (http://www.autoshowflorida.com/web/used/Hyundai-Accent-2011-Plantation-Florida/1214569/?body_type_id=2045&store=1397%2C2779). At this point, I just wanted a car and wanted to be done with driving back and forth.

When I got back, they took the $200 (which I thought was going with the 50 to make the 250 down payment and I drove off in the car.

After getting home, I received an e-mail from Barry saying that when the finance company calls that it is important to tell them that the car has leather seats, power windows, a sun roof and that I put $2000 down. None of which was true. The car was basic, fabric seats, roll up windows,no sun roof, and no way did I put a full 2000 down (why do you think I walked in there with Roadloans?).  The finance company never called for an interview, so I never had to lie to them, and i don't know what would have happened, had they called and I told them the truth.

I later found out on line that this is  called power booking and it is VERY illegal, it's basically fraud because the dealership lied to the financing company.

About a week later, I started receiving phone calls, at work and on my cell phone, one after the other from Barry and the Autoshow billing department telling me I needed to pay the remainder of the $2000 (now $1800). Barry was being very nasty to me and unnecessarily. I paid another 150 in "good faith payment" since it had only been a week and I was compltely broke from him making me make the 2 hour drive 4 times now (twice each way). another week passed and the car started misfiring, and sputtering. The transmission was going or something, it would not change over gears easily, and would not accelerate like it did originally, or even acceptably enough to take a highway ramp. I told Barry about this, and he reminded me about the as is sale and the manufacturer's warranty. I replaced the spark plugs and it was running fine on and off, and mostly worked only when OverDrive was turned off and I was running in the worst fuel economic state.

Almost a month after I had the car, I received a letter from the finance AGENCIES that they tried to get loans from. I only signed for a loan from Santander and they had apparently applied to OTHER loan companies for me as well. I was not approved for any of the loans, and Santander had sent a counter offer. When I contacted them, they said that they had told AutoShow weeks ago that I would owe more than the 2000 down. So, now, Autoshow knows that I owe even more on this car, that is not worth nearly what I'm apparently going to pay for it, because they're telling everyone that it has options that it doesn't have! BUT they haven't told me that I owe even more or that I wasn't approved.

Next email was from Barry calling me a scumbag for not making a payment and paying off the $2000 and told me that charges were going to filed and the car was going to be taken. At this point, I don't want anything to do with the car, or him any more. My email following stated "I was mailed that I don't have an approved loan from the lenders that you tried to get loans from in my name. Firstly, I only signed a loan for Santander. Secondly, it says that it was countered, and you never got in touch with me to tell me that I would owe more than the 2000 down... Come get your car, the temp tag is expired, so I cant drive it there, and with the fact that you never contacted me about the change in loan, and the power booking situation, I do not ant to work with you or your company any more."

They came the same day to get the car.  After having taken the car around 4p.m. Barry had sent me an email around 4am insinuating that I still had the car and they would repo it and file charges. I received a letter today that they will be selling the car at private auction and that I will owe anything left on the loan that they cannot pay off from the auction. But I apparently never had a loan... so who do I owe, and what?
