Please beware of AvanetUSA Collection Company!!!  This company is a complete fraud!  I received a letter a couple months ago claiming I owed $2400 dollars to a school called Sanford Brown (previously known as Western School of Business) from 13 years ago.  I was never contacted regarding this school in the past.  I was enrolled at the school but soon cancelled due to personal reasons and decided to attend the same school but at a different location the following semester.  The school never informed me that I owed a balance. 

All of sudden 13 years later I am being bombarded with calls from Avante claiming that if I don't pay this bill it will be put on my credit report as refusing to pay.  Although, I now hold a Master's degree in this economy I am still looking for a job.  I spoke with one of Avante's representatives and stated that I didn't attend the school but the representative insisted that I did.  I thought that maybe I did owe a balance because that happened when I decided to drop a class at the university I attended and I still owed for it.  (I did pay for the course I drop at the university) However, since I am unemployed I said that I would only be able to pay 10 dollars a month.  I know that isn't a lot but if I don't have the money I just don't have the money. 

She told me that they would not accept that amount and it would still go on my credit report.  She said to me if I was owed 2400 would I take installments of ten dollars as a payment.  I told her it depends on the circumstances.  Then she asked me how do I pay for my rent, food, etc...I said that really is not any of her business.  She started yelling at me stating it was her business and then hanged up on me.  I decided to call Sanford Brown to see exactly what I owe and the student accounts manager researched my account and said that I don't owe a balance at all since I was a cancelled student and that I should have never been contacted by this collection agency.  I called Avante back and still I was told that I owed the balance even when the school itself stated I did not.  I asked to speak to a manager and he himself was rude, telling I was contacted on several occasions over the past thirteen years about this account and refuse to acknowledge not paying my bills.  Avante has only been in business since 2005 so how could I have been contacted for thirteen years for an account the school has no knowledge of?  I told him I would be filing a complaint and research many complaints toward his company. 

Again, don't trust this company, please research any account they claim you owe before giving them any money...you have been warned!!!
