After doing a bit of research on the effectiveness of weight loss pills, I decided to give Avesil a try. They advertise a risk free trial where they charge you only S&H for the first 30 days of pills and as long as you cancel within 14 days and return the unused portion of the pills, there's no further obligation or charge. I read the terms and conditions carefully and signed myself up.

I receive the product within a reasonable amount of time, started taking the pills, but also immediately canceled my "membership" to avoid getting charged. Nevertheless, a couple more weeks (with no weight loss) went by and I saw a $89.95 charge on my credit card.

I immediately called the customer care line and spoke with someone who was clearly a pro at dealing with this same complaint over and over again. Her answer was that I hadn't returned the product within 14 days of cancellation and therefore the charge of $89.95 was perfectly valid. This condition was never mentioned in the terms and conditions of the trial. I asked her what would happen if I returned the product now because I still have the unused pills and she said it wouldn't do any good. There was nothing she could do to reissue another RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) number.  I went around and around with her for over 20 minutes and she refused to budge.  When I asked for a supervisor she said she was the floor manager and there was no one senior to her.

I then began researching what course of action I could take with my credit card company to dispute the charge. Because the company is located in Miami, FL, and I am in CA, there's no law that protects me. But, I tried it anyway. I returned the product via certified mail with the original RMA number I was given when I first canceled my membership. I figured if I returned the product, expressed my dissatisfaction with the product, and documented my efforts to resolve the issue with the vendor, my credit card company would work with me.

That was three weeks ago and the post office is now telling me that the package appears to have been rejected by the recipient. Of course!! Avesil requires that you put the RMA number on the outside of the package. That must be so they can see when it was issued and if it's been more than the 14 days they probably reject the package so they aren't held responsible for refunding the invalid charges.

I am so fed up with Avesil and their blatant attempts to scam people out of $89.95 (or more). As far as I'm concerned they STOLE that money from me, because I acted in full accordance with their terms and conditions. They are not holding up their end of the agreement and the people on their payroll obviously have no sense of what's right and wrong.

Don't make the same mistake I did and steer clear of Avesil!!
