For the first time, I must opened up to both the psychological and traumatic experiences I suffered through Aviation Institute of Maintenance here in Norfork.  I was desirious of obtaining a relevant education as I planned my visit to the USA in 2005. Since I have no relatives or friends here in the USA, I considered it a good idea coming into school directly, which will afford me a faster way of getting to meet people, and knowing the environment, thereby preventing some of the difficulties foreigners faced on their initial visit.  I contacted Aviation Institute of Maintenance through the internet, and they promised me all forms of assistance while attending the school.  They promised to get me a part-time job, in addition to financial aids. I have absolutely no knowledge about living, working or school in the USA prior to my arrival, hence I implicitely relied on their judgment to do all that was in my best interest.  Unfortunately, they took advantage of me as a 'foreigner' and made me to put my signatures on documents that eventually made them to collect 'student' loans in my name, to their own advantage.   Their selfish interests started manifesting immediately I arrived at the Norfolk International Airport after over 12 hours of flight (my first time ever flying!).  AIM officials picked me up from the airport and transported me directly to their office.  Despite my level of exhaustion, sleeplessness; hunger, and and jetlag; in addition to the extreme cold weather that greeted me, they made me sign many documents that has to do with financial aids, without regards to my travel ordeals.  They gave me no freedom of choice, or education about other choices. Despite their knowledge that I have no relatives here in the States, they never considered how I was going to manage through the school, or how I was going to sustain myself while in school.  They let me go after they have made me to sign all documents they wanted, even when I had no social security number!

Three months later when I started the proram proper, discovered I was going to have difficulties coping in the program because I had ran out of money I had saved up, and coming to school was becoming a problem because I had no transportation, and dont know how to ride the bus. The school could not find me a part-time job as they promised, and whatever money they collected in form of financial aid on my behalf was used up by them.  I discussed problem with the assistant director of the program, and told him I prefer to withdraw from the school at this stage so that I can go get myself a job and settle down before coming back to school. He told me that I would lose my financial aids, and in addition, I will have to vacate the temporary dormentary accomodation the school currently provided me.  I have no money to rent an apartment if the school decides to evict me, therefore my situation became such that I have to forced myself to remain in school.  The effect of this was very devastating, and I see myself unable to focus, absent minded, and unable to remember anything.  It was not too long before the school asked me to leave due to my low GPA.  This was the begining of the my prayers that God should provide me a free air ticket so that I can go back home.  I was already frustrated with my experiences here in the US as finding my level became very difficult with no help, and directions from anyone.  Suicide was not an option as I decided that I had to survive on my own.  As at today, AIM had put me into serious financial burden, and a dent on my credit report long before I knew what bad or good credit is. My life has been traumatic since then, and the pain of having to pay a debt I never really benefited from!

I went to this so called Learning institute called AIM.  I gained nothing but heavy debt and disapointment. They are not acredited as they claim. I held a 4.0 but because of my hours i worked I nwld often be late for class. I was told this was ok. Then I get a letter of dissmisal and nthey dont care what the reason is. They took advantage of this country boy who only looks for the good in others. They exploited this and the fact that i qualified foir loans. I am ove 52,000.00 in debt thanks to them and am practically homeless. The rich man who owns it cld care less. He has a museum full of old planes that the school restored and he claimed them as write offs. Hes a joke and an insult to the learning institutions in America. They charged me ooutragously for late fees and rent wich they called "housing" But it was actually a way that this place could take more money. they wldnt even tell us how much the rent was. I want my money back. I cld do more good with it at church than they could ever do....

I attend aim in Atlanta and I have read a few reports about aviation institute and each one has one theme. The student was not prepared for and did not research the school. This story this person wrote is not saying school did not do there job. It is in writing with every document you get from school that they promise they will try to help. They will help find you a job, but you are the one that needs to get hired. They will help you find place but if your not attending anymore, well your on your own. This is a adult vocational school strictly regulated by FAA. So if you are coming here thinking you going to pampered by faculty and instructors then you are one that was not ready and your fault, not school that did not go well. I am a father of three children, 38 years old , have full time job and 3.6 average in school. If I can do this , anybody can. I rebutted this cause school did not scam you, you came to a adult school with a elementary attitude.
