clicked on a link to get cheap items at a fractions of cost. entered credit card info, which seemed like a logical thing to do. no where did it say i was buying anything by doing so. paypal didn't charge me when i signed up, nor did ebay, so why would this auction site? Congratulations on your purchase!!! was the next thing i saw after hitting the "start bidding" button. What purchase? i just bought a membership and 300 bids for $159.00. Where did it say i was buying anything when clicking "start bidding"? well when i clicked the "very helpful" tech support, they gave me a link that showed me an exact screen shot of the one i had just gone through.....or was it. i don't recall seeing in bold print below the "start bidding" button, "by clicking you will be charged $159.00. interesting. all of the other penny bid sites are very clear about what you are getting into. why aw swipe are you so sneaky?

..posting the original screen shot that does not state you agree to anything. Once you go to that site, you can not find that page again because they have your IP address and manipulate it. You would actually have to use another computer that had never been to the website before to capture that screen shot as evidence.
That is deception. As well, if you look at the screen shot, they have divided it into 2 columns. The one on the left where it says "53 cents" is where it says you will buy bids and be charged the 159.00.
But if you only start filling out the info on the right side where it implies it is used so they will know where to ship your winnings..you can easily miss this. I thought they had stopped doing this but apparently not.
As far as the statement..."paypal didn't charge me when i signed up, nor did ebay, so why would this auction site?"
Well that is because you were under the assumption this is a legitimate auction site like eBay. With a legitimate auction such as ebay..there is a chance you can get a good deal on an item..right? And there is a chance you will not..right?
But on this site, there is a chance you may get a good deal..but if you bid and do not win..it still cost you to bid. Ebay does not charge you a dime if you do not win.
As well, when the time on an eBay auction ends, the highest bid wins. With this type of gambling site, the timer is set back with each bid..hence making sure the item will bring in more money for the seller. In this case the ONLY seller is Swipebids.
Now since on swipebids there is only a "chance" that you will win anything at a savings, and it cost you to bid regardless if you win or not, how can this be considered ANYTHING other then gambling? I guess you could consider it a raffle or a lottery..but then it would be even more illegal then it may be as a gambling site..there are no regulations here..you can lose a lot of money and have nothing to show for it.
Granted some people may have money to burn and this can be entertaining, and they may win something at a great deal..but for the average consumer on a budget and not a gambler, the best way to shop is not by "chance"..unless like with eBay, it cost you nothing if you do not win the auction. That is what separates a true "auction", from a "gamble".
