I have reserved a Siamese kitten as promised in our agreement, red point male. After, making the deposit she guaranteed me with the above mentioned cat and then all of the sudden the parent of the kitten died so she has to keep it? That's considered false advertisement. Furthermore, she demanded to pay the remaining balance for neutering, yet the kitten will be for breeding purposes? Nonsense. I have had told her that I am not interested in any business with her or any kitten, since all the kittens have diseases, and eventually they die due to chronic issues. You will spend hundreds of thousand dollars, yet to find out, that you will lose your beloved cat eventually. She is a total liar, scam artist, and will never deliver the kitten to you picked, rather will offer the run of the litter, someone who was in and out of the hospital since birth. She will lie and backstab. The most dishonest person I have ever dealt with, yet I resided in NYC for 15 years, that's something to say. Please DO NOT conduct business with her, she will keep your money, beg you for more with no live kitten to be delivered any time in your life. Rather trying to sell you the most ill one from the litter. Shame, shame, shame... On top of that her emails will be nasty and clearly stating that she will never give you the money back

My positive experience

AUTHOR: NLaine - (Finland)

POSTED: Sunday, June 21, 2015

I bought a kitten from Debbie a year ago. For as long as I have had her, she has been in super health. When she came to me, she didn't even have upset stomach, which is a very common stress symptom in kittens moving to a new home. And she had travelled a very long way by plane. She has also been very brave from day one. Purring and affectionate. So, my experience with Debbie has been great. She is a lovely person and has helped me a lot. My cat hurt her paw as kitten when she was playing. Debbie took her to the vet, who confirmed that nothing was broken and that she could travel to me in a few weeks time. I don't see how an "unscrupulous scam breeder" would have done that. In fact, she had to take my kitten to the vet many times, since she had to be vaccinated twice and have her documents signed for travelling. Doesn't sound like a person who doesn't care for cats' wellbeing or for the people she sells kittens to.

A Victim's Perspective

AUTHOR: meme - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, April 02, 2014

I find it odd that so many satisfied cat buyers have congregated at a destination, specifically a complaint site appropriately named Rip Off, to share their happy cat buying stories as they relate to Debbie Modderman of Azorez Cattery.  Might the breeder, herself, have had a hand in orchestrating this reunion?

I also find it astonishing, even incomprehensible, that the credibility and professionalism of this breeder is in question. For the record, and there is a record, this woman is duplicitous, unethical and dishonest. She lacks character, honor, and integrity. She is also adept in silencing her opposition with accusations, denials and self-righteous indignation.

To those of you who gathered in defense of Ms. Modderman and her cattery, I would suggest you count your every last blessing over what you have been spared. The randomness of life dealt you a fair and equitable hand in getting a healthy kitten. My family and I were not as fortunate. The kitten we were sold two days before Christmas on December 23, 2012, died on December 30, 2012, seven days after bringing him home.

The specifics of the narrative can be accessed online in the Complaint Activity Report filed with the Better Business Bureau of Mainland British Columbia, Canada, in May 2013 [Case #1258621].  A second complaint was filed with the Washington State Attorney General's Office, [Case #430954].

In brief: After a year and a half of repeated attempts to negotiate with this breeder, arrange multiple payment plans, enlist the assistance of two consumer protection agencies, and consult with a lawyer to weigh legal action, Miss Modderman shut down all communication, returned mail with the addressee cited as “moved” or “unknown” and went into hiding; indicative of traits normally associated with grifters and petty criminals or what someone else aptly labeled her as: a thief breeder. I would amend that simply to “thief” as this woman’s character and conduct is not befitting that of an honorable and respected breeder.

Financial loss: $1500 including purchase price, medical bills, emergency treatments, euthanasia charges and cremation. Emotional loss (grief, anguish, agitation and contempt): Immeasurable.

You are a very angry person.

AUTHOR: Jeanette - ()

POSTED: Monday, March 17, 2014

You are so angry you are making spelling mistakes.  Please just take a breath and think about this for a moment.

The breeder lost the sire, which represented to her many years of breeding and many $ from importing lines and breeding to where she is now.  Her contract states that she will offer a replacement but does not do refunds.  Ypu had 2 kittens from her in the past and you must have been happy with them to have come back for another. You know her contract and her cats.  Sure you had your heart set on the red boy, and you were really very dissappointed not to get him,  but there will be other red boys.

I went through the CFA breeders code of ethics and there is not a word about refundable deposits.  Take a read" http://www.cfainc.org/Portals/0/documents/BreederCodeOfEthics.pdf and http://www.tica.org/members/forms/cattery/voluntary_code_of_ethics.pdf

If a buyer could put a deposit on any cat they want and then withdraw from the sale once the cat is old enough to be homed or older, the breeder loses out on other potential homes and could potentially take a loss on the kitten as a result.  This is what non-refundable refunds are for.

I bought a Kitten from Debbie

AUTHOR: Jeanette - ()

POSTED: Sunday, March 16, 2014

I live in New Zealand and it is one of the most difficult countries to import a cat to.

Debbie supported me with the kitten, she housed and fed him and looked after all the vetinary and other requirements for 7 months while getting him ready.  Communication with her was excellent.

When I received the cat he was in excellent condition and health, and was a lot more than what was portrayed in his photos.  He is an absolute joy, beautiful temprament and stunning good looks!  I cannot fault a single move she made.

New kittens

AUTHOR: Bridget - ()

POSTED: Sunday, February 16, 2014

I have recently purchased 2 beautiful kittens from Debbie. I lynx point male and a bi colour oriental female. These kittens are in great health and have wonderful personalities. They have truly enriched our lives.

From the moment we contacted Debbie til the moment we received our babies we were made aware of the rules and the contract. We received a kitten contract via email right away which clearly states no refunds and the policy regarding replacement only.

I also believe that the contract states that you do not have to takr\e the cat offered right away, but have the right to choose from a future litter.

Please do not hesitate buying from this cattery. Debbie is a wonderful breeder with cats that have wonderful personalities and are little purring machines.

My vet says that they are healthy little kittens and are a graed addition to our family.

My advice to anyone buying is read the contract thoroughly.

CFA and TICA Guidelines and Code of Ethics

AUTHOR: Sylviany - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 06, 2014

Obviously you are a un-edicated person, since otherwise you would be able to read/comprehend CFA and TICA code of Ethics. Are oyu even member in either of them? Furthermore it clearly is stated on their page: DEPOSIT'S MUST BE REFUNDED "NO MATTER WHAT REASON" If oyu choose NOT to refund buyer's "good faith deposit" then a police or sherrif's crime report will be filed. Just remember debbie, Karma is working. You lost your job and other crappy thinsg happend to you. Ther is a GOD, and you cant get away from your destiny. Karma is a b****!!!!! Therefore, I will be filing a sherif's report! I will see you at the court

Nice and healthy cat

AUTHOR: Christine - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, July 24, 2013

Last March, I have bought an oriental shorthair male from Debbie Modderman. From the moment I contacted Debbie for my oriental boy to the moment I held him in my arms, everything went really well. She was helpful everytime we spoke on the phone and she answered every mail. The kitten had to be shipped and that was done on the day we had agreed on, there was no delay. My boy was and is still in good health and best of all he has the most wonderful personnality! I would not hesitate to buy another kitten from that cattery.

In Support of Azorez Cattery

AUTHOR: SandyW - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 23, 2013

I first came across Azorez Cattery in 2009 when I was searching for a blue point siamese kitten. Debbie was helpful and informative.  She didn't have a kitten for me at that time but was more than happy to provide me the names of other breeders who might have kittens.  She even contacted other breeders on my behalf.

In 2012 I saw the photo of a red tabby kitten on the Azorez website and instantly fell in love. In all of our communications, Debbie was helpful and honourable. I paid my deposit as was expected, followed up with the remaining monies owed and she delivered me a beautiful kitten when he was ready to come home.

I travelled to pick up the red tabby and ended up also coming home with a choclolate tabby male kitten.  Both boys are amazing. They are gorgeous cats but even more impressive are their personalities. They are absolutely charming. They purr at the sight of you. They are sweet, cuddly, easy-going, talkative, inquisitive, playful and a delight.  We have not one complaint about these 2 new additions to our family. They are in perfect health and have been since they arrived home 7 months ago.

This is my rebuttal to the accusations in the previous post.

IN MY DEFENCE--by Debbie Modderman of Azorez Cattery

AUTHOR: azorezcattery - ()

POSTED: Sunday, July 21, 2013

It is true...I do not offer refunds on demand to my kitten buyers. My buyers contract, my website and my correspondances all state no refunds, REPLACEMENT ONLY.
View my contract online here:
http://members.shaw.ca/Dora-Baggins/PET-contract-2012Varga.pdf

This complainent is Silvia Varga. She forgot to mention that this purchase she approached me for was for a 3rd kitten. She purchased 2 healthy Siamese male kittens from me about 8yrs ago. At that time she had arranged transport with an expensive animal courier which I promptly cancelled and found her a much cheaper alternative to deliver her kittens from me. Thus saved her several hundred dollars.
In the fall of 2012 she contacted me again as she had done a few times in the recent past asking for another kitten.
I recieve a deposit from her in Oct 2012 for a little Red point male kitten
In the beginning of December the little boy would have been ready to go so I requested full payment for him before he was altered. She now accuses me of begging for more money when in fact I had requested that she pay the balance of the purchase price. On December 25th the sire of the kitten succumed to pnuemonia, so because of my concern and as a precaution, I told her that she couldn't have the kitten that I had another one in place of him. As a conciensious breeder, I did not want to send her a kitten that might end up with health issues. Twice I have offered her a replacement kitten and she has declined. Her reply was..."you are a simple con artist who is begging US buyers for the money shame, shame shame. I hope all your stupid cats die. I want no business form you and your fast a*s low quality cats."

She has immediately responded with nasty horrible emails that included threats...here is one example in her words "I am shaking like a leave. You should be careful. Have everything documented. Scan artist!! See you soon in person. The truth will prevail. I am not the thief you are. So you watch your attitudes with me. I am still being nice" This threat was recorded in a police report.

I have been breeding for nearly 20yrs and can provide a long list of referances to show that I have acted in good faith with my kitten buyers. It is true...I do not offer refunds on demand to my kitten buyers. My buyers contract, my website and my correspondances all state no refunds, REPLACEMENT ONLY.
