I bought some very nice looking business clothes in the Banana Republic store in San Francisco. Within months, the $100 wool slacks, $150 leather shoes, and $500 leather jacket were starting to show excessive wear with only normal, casual use.

I contacted the store and corporate headquarters, and they informed me that even if the clothes had fallen apart due to poor quality (which they had), it was past the 30 days manufacturer's refund policy and was a result of wear and tear.

When I pay a lot of money for a product, I expect high quality. Banana republic clothes, jackets and shoes are of very inferior quality. Clothes of similar styles that I bought at other stores and wore for the same period of time under the same conditions show none of the excessive wear. The Banana Republic clothes are almost unwearable.

I was very unhappy with the minimal effort that Banana Republic went in attempting to resolve my conflict, basically blowing me off and telling me that it was none of their problem. I want to advise other people of the high price and poor quality of their products, so that other consumers will not be ripped off as I was.

wrong info Banana Republic subjected customers to a "warranty period

AUTHOR: S - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 01, 2005

Banana Republic does not now, nor have they ever, subjected customers to a "warranty period". Up until approximately a year ago, return policies were similar to many of their competitors due in part to the volume of customers who purchase higher-end clothes for specific events or seasons and then return them once they have been worn.

About a year ago, in order to better accommodate the legitimate customers who ran into occasional problems but were unfortunately caught up in these policies, the company put a new set of policies in place.

I have a hard time believing that BR Customer Relations instructed the customer to do anything other than take the clothes to the nearest store for a refund even before the new policies were in place if the clothes were defective,as that is something all stores have always been empowered to do when a customer is disatisfied with their purchase, regardless of the time frame.

Those refunds are, of course, subject to the normal return policy as far as receipt, tender, etc, but the situation should be worked out to the satisfaction of the customer.

Always Thought That

AUTHOR: Cory - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, April 30, 2005

Haven't been in a BR for years. Never bought anything from them either because I thought their stuff was kind of pricey for rather cheaply made goods. It looked good. Didn't know their prices had gone that high. If you're going to spend that kind of money, it could be better spent someplace else.

Bad clothes Payless runs the BOGO promotion

AUTHOR: R - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, April 29, 2005

I used to work for Banana Republic. I can tell you from inside inPayless runs the BOGO promotionformation, that their clothing quality is horrible, and so is their customer service when handling issues such as yours.

My advice to you, stay away from banana republic, their stuff was so bad I quit! Try J. Crew, their stuff is really good.
