I have been having a lot of trouble with this bank taking money from my account without any permission or me not knowing why. I have made calls to them, went into an office and gotten nowhere. I was overdrawn over five hundred dollars in my account.

Recently I revisited an office and had attempted to close my account, and the little man in the suit copied my license and said he would take care of it, that it would be closed in two to three business days. That was approximately one month and one week ago.

I received an e-mail to my in-box that was a statement from Bank Of America that stated I was negative eight dollars and an odd amount of change. I called the bank, I told her there had been no activity on that account in over a month. She said the "maintenance fee" of the eight dollars was from last month and just posted to my account last night.

I closed the account over a month ago. There has been no activity on the account. I get charged last night for something from last month. I've never been charged a maintenance fee before so why are they doing it now?

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BANK, THEY RIP YOU OFF BY TAKING YOUR MONEY

Bank of America

AUTHOR: Poradicus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 14, 2009

Yes, I totally agree Bank of America is wrong for now charging service fee's after they said they would close their account for you. I worked for BofA as a teller and account managements for 3 years and I quit and found something else. But a lot of people don't realize that there is $5-$35 dollar maintenance fee depending on how long the account was opened how much money, etx. This is in order to cover, maintaning, and keeping the accounts open. Anyhow to the poster that doesn't understand what this person meant - I do.

I can understand that he/she was charged whatever service fee thereafter the 8 dollars since they were overdrafted and didn't know - hence their account should of been closed. Lets say he/she has $0.00 dollars in their bill account and they closed it and whomever the representative was forgot to initiate this in the computer database. Their maintenance fee charge was 8 dollars. Well the representative closed her account but forgot to put it in affect. So now they are overdrafted 8 dollars. The system is also adding 35 dollar service fee charge and for each following day if it was not paid in full. Each 35 dollar transaction adds on because it is in the negatives and no way to cover that charge.

They will only reach a certain limit of 500 dollars depending on pending charges and there-of overdraft fees not quickly payed in full. So not only was this person overdrafted in fees totaling 500 dollars but was over-drawn a maintenance fee for an account that was supposedly suppose to be closed. It can happen to anywone I work at a bank and know this for fact that the system is not always perfect. That is why I tell people to "Always Check Your Bank Statements" to make sure everything is legit and correct. One good way is when you look online at your bank statement, always click "Review Account History", it is actually more accurate than the regular budget sheet. I would call Bank of America instead to talk to the reps. They are really friendly and will easily credit your account if you sincerly closed your account. Their number is 1-800-432-1000 and the reps are nice and friendly.

I don't like the direction Bank of America is going, they use to be a very, very good bank; and although I still have some old friends that work there, they are fed up to and one of them just quit as well. But what can we do, the corporate office and branches are the only ones that seem to be passing some strict rules on the associates so people please don't get mad at the associates, get mad at the corporate offices and the CEO that are making Bank of America the way it is today!

How does an $8 fee amount to being $500 overdrawn??????

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Since you did not post all of the details here, I can only assume that you mismanaged your account so badly that your only option was to close it after being overdrawn over $500, as you stated.

If the account was not brought current prior to closing, it is in default and cannot be closed in a state of default, therefore the monthly fee will still be charged.

Keep in mind, banks do not overdraw your account, irresponsible customers do.

This is usually a result of not keeping an accurate checkbook register, and/or "floating" transactions.

You MUST keep an accurate checkbook register. This is NOT optional.

No bank will work for you unless you learn how to properly maintain your account.
