Dear Saldana Kozar,

Thank you for your inquiry. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The items that brought your account to a negative balance were:
$8.43 Quality Food Center and $6.06 listed currently only as Store #1077.

After these two items were subtracted, your account balance was $16.64.

If there is anything else that we can help you with, please contact us again.
Thank you for choosing Bank of America.

Sincerely,

K Romanowski
Bank of America

All this ---- $8.43 Quality Food Center and $6.06 listed currently only as Store #1077.--- ,
I payed BEFORE and after that, my AVAILABLE balance was $+10.00
.

Then, I try to pay overdraw so I put around $ + 256.00 on my account. Then I had on my account about $ 240.00.
First, that day around 11am, I bought lunch and spend 8.43. Around 5pm I went to the bank and get 200.00 from that account. My available balance after all this transaction was + 40.00.
I didnt use my card after that.
Below is BALANCE SHEET THAT I SO NEXT MORNING:

3/19/08 KEEP THE CHANGE TRANSFER CANCELED -LOW ACCT BAL $0.00 -$73.43
03/19/08 PURCHASE 90620319013600644262401 ON 03/19 AT QUALITY FOOD CEN REDMOND WA -$8.43 -$73.43
03/19/08 BANKOFAMERICA ATM WITHDRAWAL ON 03/19 AT 15800 REDMOND WA REDMOND WA -$100.00 -$65.00
03/19/08 BANKOFAMERICA ATM WITHDRAWAL ON 03/19 AT 15800 REDMOND WA REDMOND WA -$100.00 $35.00
03/19/08 OVERDRAFT ITEM FEE -$35.00 $135.00
03/19/08 OVERDRAFT ITEM FEE -$35.00 $170.00
03/19/08 OVERDRAFT ITEM FEE -$35.00 $205.00
03/19/08 ONLINE BANKING TRNSFR FROM CHECKING 34537969 $16.64 $240.00
03/19/08 ONLINE BANKING TRNSFR FROM CHECKING 34537969 $20.00 $223.36
03/19/08 ONLINE BANKING TRNSFR FROM CHECKING 34537969 $20.00 $203.36
03/19/08 ONLINE BANKING TRNSFR FROM CHECKING 34537969 $200.00 $183.36
03/18/08 KEEP THE CHANGE TRANSFER CANCELED -LOW ACCT BAL $0.00 -$16.64

Balance sheet is incorrect. First I payed 8.43, then I took 200.00.
So why my sheet look like this???

So now, I own -$73.43 and probably OVERDRAFT ITEM FEE . How much is that fee, I will see today.

Can anyone please answer me, where is my mistake and what are my option, except to close my account. ( I will deffenatly do that today)

More Informatin Needed

AUTHOR: Edward - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 21, 2008

Sladana, I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I could be wrong but only additional information will determine that. The balance sheet you have posted begins with negative -$16.64. This means that after Bank of America finished processing your transactions on the night of the 18th, your final Posted/Account balance was negative $-16.64. To me, the only way this could have happened is if you had items which posted and these items overdrew your account.

Then, the next night on the 19th, they hit you with three overdraft fees. To me this confirms my suspicions. When they processed and posted your transactions on the 18th, at least three of those transactions posted, leaving your Posted/Account balance negative after all three. Then Bank of America charges you the overdraft fees for these three transactions the next business day, the 19th, as is their procedure. Fees are charged the following day.

So the question is, how did your Posted/Account balance end up at negative -$16.64 on the night of the 18th. Only addtional balance sheet information leading up to that point will clarify.

Banks, not just BofA posts highest to lowest,

It's irrelevant when you took out 8.43 and 200 because BofA will take out the 200 first and then the 8.43. Also, it would depend on when the merchant presented the payment, regardless of when you made the purchase. If you paid the 8.43 by using it as a debit transaction (requires a PIN) then it would post the same day but still after the 200. if you signed the receipt, then it was treated as a credit and youa re at the mercy of the merchant because the bank doesn't know if the amount is valid or not. It has to clear before it's treated as a valid purchase.

You should keep a check register of all your transactions (remembering to post from largest to smallest) and don't spend more than what your check register states. You will find all of these issues at any bank so changing banks will not help because you will find they process transactions the same way. The key is to properly document your all of yoru transactions. By the way, I am not a bank employee, but understand fully how these thing work.
